Products are often displayed in green wrappers with leaf designs, and this draws an analogy to the marketing tactics used by companies. A common example of this are shampoo commercials as a good portion of the public view them every day. The use of “vague advertisements” with visuals of beautiful nature and exotic fruits creates a colorful mental image in the consumers mind.

Be cautious of certifications and logos on products. Most of the time it's pretty easy to research and legitimize the certifications that a company claims to have. Or not if they don't have them. You can even compare similar products from different brands to see if their environmental claims align.

Be careful though, if you dig even the slightest bit beneath the company's surface and do a little bit of research you can easily learn that the lithium ion batteries that power a Tesla are in fact extremely toxic to the environment once they die. They aren't bio-degradeable, and the mining process to build them emits tremendous amounts of carbon dioxide.
