The Prologue

Romeo's old feelings of love are dying and are being overcome by a new found lover. He stated that he would die for the beautiful Rosaline, but she can't compare to Juliet, so Romeo has learned to forget Rosaline's existence. Now Romeo has fallen in love with Juliet and the feelings are mutual. He has to confess his love to a girl who is supposed to be his enemy. Juliet also faces the problem of loving a guy who she should fear. Romeo and Juliet shall never have a normal relationship and do what normal lovers do. Their love empowers them and time gives them the chance to meet, sweetening the extreme danger with intense pleasure.

Scene 1

Romeo does not want to leave the Capulet property, so he ditches Benvolio and Mercutio and hides in the orchard behind the Capulet house. His friends try to find him but have no luck. Unaware that Romeo has the hots for Juliet, Mercutio and Benvolio shout out filthy things about Rosaline, hoping that Romeo will come out to defend her honor. Eventually, his friends give up and head home.

Scene 2

Romeo is wandering aimlessly around the Capulet backyard when Juliet appears on her balcony. Romeo begins to talk to himself, just as Juliet does the same. After listening to Juliet for a while, Romeo decides to speak to her. He climbs up to her balcony just to be close to her. Juliet basically purposes to him and they agree to have the Friar marry them the following day.

Scene 3

Romeo tracks down Friar Laurence and tries to talk to him about the marriage. The Friar notices that Romeo hasn't been in bed that night and assumes that he must have finally hooked up with Rosaline. He also notices that Romeo is suddenly cheerful after weeks of moping around. Romeo explains that Rosaline is no longer in his life and he has found a new lover, Juliet. Friar Laurence decides to help Romeo but not because hes a romantic: but because a marriage between Romeo and Juliet just might solve the problems between the warring families.

Scene 4

Mercutio and Benvolio still havent figured out where Romeo is. They have found a letter directed towards Romeo from Tybalt saying that he wants to fight Romeo. Romeo shows up to see his friends and is no longer sad or depressed. Just as Mercutio, Benvolio, and Romeo begin talking, the nurse shows up looking quite ridiculous and Mercutio can't resist making fun of her. Somehow, Romeo manages to pull the nurse aside to tell her that Juliet should find an excuse to come to Friar Laurence's church where she will be married.

Scene 5

In the orchard behind the Capulet house, Juliet waits for the nurse to come back with a message from Romeo. The nurse finally returns and decides to mess around with Juliet and refuse to tell her the news. All she does is complain about her aching body and being out of breath. At last, the nurse tells Juliet that she will tell her parents she is going to confession, but she is actually going to Friar Laurence's cell where Romeo will be waiting to marry her. Then the nurse says she will get a rope ladder for Romeo to climb later that night after the wedding to be with Juliet.

Scene 6

At the church, Friar Laurence tries to explain to Romeo to be careful because "These violent delights have violent ends. Romeo doesn't listen to him. Finally, Juliet walks in. Then the Friar takes them off to go get married.
