Eumaeus is an old friend/servant who aids Odysseus and Telemachus in the battle with the suitors. Also he described what happened to the dog to the 'beggar' when he says "A hunter owned him-but the man is dead in some far place" (Homer 1190-1191)

The god that helped Odysseus in this was Zeus because he signaled when it was time to begin killing the suitors. First of all he is very Intelligent, for example when him and his men were trapped in the cyclops's cave Odysseus had the integrity to tell the cyclops that his name was 'nohbdy' so that he could not be tracked. "My name is Nohbdy: mother, father and friends, everyone calls me Nohbdy." (Homer  315-316)
We have also seen his leadership skills many times. An example of this is when Odysseus had to calm his men down when they were frightened when they were facing Scylla and Charybdis. "Friends have we never been in more danger than this? More fearsome, is it now, than when the cyclops penned is in his cave? What power he had! Did I not keep my nerve and use my wits to find a way out for us?" (Homer 766-770)
Finally we have seen Odysseus perseverance, after Odysseus long journey, he still managed to never give up until he got his wife back. Odysseus never gave up throughout the whole story.
