On May 30th, 1790, Thomas Jefferson, who was one of the Founding Fathers, the author of the Declaration of Independence, and the third President of the United States, wrote a letter to a man by the name of Thomas Mann Randolph. Randolph would later serve as the Representative and as the Governor of Virginia. In his letter, Jefferson highlighted the significance of the study of law, pointing out that it "is useful in a variety of points of view. it qualifies a man to be useful to himself, to his neighbors, & to the public."
