What is Padlet?

Padlet is a great tool for teaching, learning, communicating and distributing information between and among students. The ease of use coupled with the instant transfer of posts among users creates scope for multiple uses in a classroom setting.

I use Padlet primarily for hinge activities, where students can demonstrate understanding by adding a response to the class Padlet.

PS. There is both an iOS and an Adriod application available for Padlet!

Padlet is free (basic membership) for teachers and students. It is recommended that all students create an account with their @education.nsw.gov.au email address and connect with your class Padlet before interacting with the wall to ensure you can monitor posts.

Reminder: There is also an application for both IOS and Android devices available for free download!

To simplify Padlet, you may liken it to a Facebook Timeline (or wall), where people can add, view and interact with posts in an open forum setting.

By double clicking anywhere on the blank space, a contributor can add a post. This can be simply text (like this one) or include a rage of attachments and links (like this video below which covers the basics of Padlet).

Padlet as a space for sharing

In my experience, Padlet is a great tool for providing students with a range of information. In the current shift in favour of BYOD in schools, Padlet provides teachers with a platform to distribute large amounts of data to students. This also provides a great way to differentiate learning for students quickly and easily- you can supply students with additional resources that they can use to complete tasks and assessments. In addition, you can provide extension activities that can be accessed by high achieving students virtually anywhere. I have provided a screenshot from a class Padlet created for this use at a previous school.

How do I share my Padlet with my students?

You can quickly embed a link to your Padlet on your Google Classroom or other web page.

Otherwise you can invite students via email or have them send you a request to interact with the Padlet.

Remember, students don't need an account to post on a Padlet, but this may make it easier as you can then monitor who is the author of each post.

Recently, Padlet have added an option to connect via the use of QR codes, meaning students with portable devices can approach the board, scan the code and connect instantly! The 'Share' icon at the top, right hand corner of your Padlet will allow you to explore these options.
