I believe that children have a lot of things going on in their development. I have learned a lot about how children develop in a number of different domains. In some cases I did not realize that eleven-year-olds need adult humor and empathy so that they may mature. In another case I did not know that some children age 5 may read aloud when asked to read silently. Lastly I did not know that girls tend to stick to close friends. I initially thought that they like to stick to smaller groups like me and my male friends, but I guess I was wrong.
As future teachers this means a lot for our understanding of our students. We can use this timeline as an understanding for what kids may be going through and a baseline for their growth and development. Using these tasks along with the understanding and studying that we have done of the different theorists allows for a plethora of understanding within children. Combining this with our future experience can allow us to be the best teachers that we possibly can be.
