In 1527, an expedition was made to North America, but due to some problems, all the 5 boats sank and 600 people died, of which only 4 persons survived.

Álvar Núñez Cabeza de Vaca and his other 3 partners became into castaways.

There, it started their journey, where they faced several conditions. They were, many times, taken as hostages of many indigenous tribes. They passed through swamps and deserts, for 9 years, walking around 8 thousand kilometers walking, by Florida, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California. And finally, in 1536, they were found and were taken to, where actually is Mexico City. After that, in 1565, Spain stablished the first territory in North America, at the North of Florida, in the city of St. Augustine. It was founded by Pedro Menéndez de Avilés.

Ending the century XVI, Juan Oñate explored and conquered many territories of North America, which actually are known as New Mexico, Arizona and Texas.

British Empire, a worldwide system of colonies and other territories, that over a span of some three centuries was brought under the sovereignty of the crown of Great Britain and the administration of the British government.

In 1770s, many colonists were angry because they didn’t have self-government and this was a problem because it meant that they couldn’t govern themselves and make their own laws so they had to pay high taxes to the king.

Economy
The economy in the colonies was varied regionally, was mostly centered around agriculture and exporting materials back to England. The southern colonies had large plantations that grew tobacco or cotton and required slave labor, while northern colonies had small family farms.

England needed raw materials that her colonies could supply. Lumber, wool, iron, cotton, tobacco, rice, and indigo were among the products needed in England.

Colonies
The British Empire began to take shape at the beginning of the 17th century, through the establishment by England of the 13 North American colonies, which were the origin of the United States as well as the Canadian maritime provinces.

There was also the colonization of small islands in the Caribbean Sea such as Jamaica and Barbados.

REFERENCES

colaboradores de Wikipedia.

It was in 1524, the French first arrived in North America, led by the Italian explorer Giovanni da Verrazzano, with the aim of finding a sea route to China on his first journey north of the continent.

In 1604, French colonists founded the Acadian colony on the land surrounding the Gulf of St. Lawrence. Four years later, explorer Samuel de Champlain founded Quebec City further inland. It became the largest city in the colony of Canada.

The main atraction and benefitsof those colonies was that whaling and cod fishing, both seasonal activities, prompted the settlement of the first French colonists on the continent. Of course, only a small proportion of the population were directly involved, but fishing and whaling nevertheless continued to be a significant component of the economy throughout the course of the French regime and even much later.

But the fur trade was the real economic driver of New France. The harvesting of furs created wealth, stimulated the exploration of the continent and created alliances with many Aboriginal peoples.

Lastly, although France’s mercantilist policy prohibited the establishment of companies likely to compete with those of the mother country, numerous initiatives gave rise to an artisanal and industrial sector.

As the English, Spanish and Dutch began to arrive, the race for colonization started. By the 1720’s the colonies of Canada, Acadia, Hudson Bay, Newfoundland and Louisiana that made up New France were well established.

In Illinois the French colonists settled in the southwestern part of the state along the Mississippi River and created the towns of Prairie du Rocher, Kaskaskia, St. Philippe, and Cahokia.

References:
https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.nationalgeographic.es/historia/2020/08/historia-de-nueva-francia-cuna-del-canada-moderno/amp
https://www.historymuseum.ca/virtual-museum-of-new-france/economic-activities/#:~:text=But%20the%20fur%20trade%20was,alliances%20with%20many%20Aboriginal%20peoples
http://drupal.library.cmu.edu/chicago/node/99
https://elordenmundial.com/el-legado-de-francia-en-estados-unidos/#:~:text=Fue%20en%201524%20cuando%20los,traves%C3%ADa%20al%20norte%20del%20continente
Team 1
Valeria Acosta
Karen Arcos
Valeria Abril
America Atristain Vega
Enrique Barrios
Emilio Camacho
