Stage 1: Trust vs. Mistrust

In this stage babies learn how and who to trust. According to my mom and dad I loved being swung around by my dad, showing that I learned early that I could trust him, and that I used to hide food to save it from being eaten by my siblings showing that I knew I could not trust them, with food at least.

Stage 2: Autonomy vs Shame

Children learn to do more for themselves in this stage. Around the age of 2 I learned to walk and was talking in full complete sentences by the age of 3. Doing this two things shows that I was able to have more control over my needs and wants by asking for things and being able to get them myself.

Stage 3: Initiative vs Guilt

Between the ages of 4 and 6 kids learn to initiate activity that they want to participate in. I exhibited this by walking on my own to my neighbor's house when I wanted to play with them.

Stage 4: Industry vs Inferiority

In this stage children are introduced to new social and academic expectations. This was a very busy time for me as I had three very defining things happen. I started school which I loved, joined Girl Scouts which I am still a member of today, and I was molested by someone whom I trusted which made me question my own judgement on everything else.

Stage 5: Identity vs Identity Confusion

During these years kids are really developing their lasting sense of self. For me I experienced my parents divorce which left me with a feeling of not knowing who I was, but then I was also diagnosed with an anxiety disorder which helped me to better understand who I was and am.

Stage 6: Intimacy vs Isolation

For this stage of life most people are either embracing intimacy and forming lasting relationships or they are experiencing isolation in not having many people in their social cirlce. I have done both. When I was 21 I met my husband and formed a very strong and happy marriage with him. However, he passed when I was 34 leaving me feeling somewhat isolated. I then experienced the loss of a child further sending me into isolation.

Stage 7: Generativity vs Stagnation

In this stage most people are drawn into creating things that will outlast them be that children or a business or some other endeavor. For myself I hope to open a school/group home for orphaned or at risk youth.

Stage 8: Ego Integrity vs Despair

For this final stage people are most likely to experience two things, either they will feel a sense of fulfillment with their life and their legacy or they will feel a sense of bitterness and envy for what they wished they could have accomplished. For myself I am hoping I am in the former. I would like to leave the Earth with a positive impression of me and having made it a little better.
