The author, in this case Fredrick Douglass believes that the society he is living in is problematic. There is no good treatment for the African Americans as they are nothing but slaves to everyone else. He was born a slave so he knows from experience how brutal and horrible life is as one. That's why he wants change so nobody else has to go through the torture

Slavery would be an absolute no to most readers. Its now considered inhumane and evil and its also outlawed in most countries. The ideology that everyone is on the same level regardless of race has recently been achieved. We still have a way to go until there is fairness and equality among all human beings. People today would find the way slaves were being treated absolutely unacceptable.

This Narrative is valued in our society because we want everyone to know the horrors of the past so they can understand how far we've come as a race. We still have pretty far to go before everyone is treated equally like a human. But back then life was only decent for 1 race; European. Any other race was discarded and considered lower than the White people, everyone has realized their mistakes over the years and are finally starting to treat people like humans. So we look back on this time as a reminder of how evil we can be and how we can change to good human beings.

They do not relate well. Using The slaves and the slave owners as examples, they are the exact opposite, one side wants to be treated as human and have basic human rights. They want to be able to walk down the street without being attacked or abused. They want to live their life without being raped and forced to have a baby to be born into slavery. The Slave owners somehow convinced themselves that blacks are under them and were born to be slaves. They feel in order to survive they need to enslave other people and force them to work without pay, they think they have the right to abuse, rape, and kill slaves.

But someone in Douglass society would be confused and wonder why we think this way. Because in his mind he thinks black people are less than him and aren't important. But Humanity has matured over the years and realized how wrong this was so we finally fixed it but it still needs some tweaks.
