Summary

mRNA is also known as messenger RNA; the concept is not a recent discovery. RNA research began around the 1960s. However, the technology of transporting mRNA via an invasive injection is relatively new—these studies are related to cancer treatments and the possible prevention of infectious diseases. However, until the global pandemic of COVID-19 in 2020, this technology took a front seat to treat this terrible virus. In the past year, many men and women have worked tireless hours to develop a vaccine to combat the COVID-19. This vaccine contains many of the same ingredients as the influenza vaccine, except it includes a nanoparticle-containing mRNA. This particle enters the cell and delivers mRNA that provides our cell membrane with a blueprint on how to construct the protein that resides outside the COVID-19 virus itself. Without this protein, the virus will not survive because it will not have any protective coating. The cells that contain the mRNA can then replicate this protein over and over. As these viral proteins protrude from the cell membrane, it will trigger an immune response that these proteins are foreign. In time, our immune system, when introduced to this protein again, will know exactly how to fight this pathogen and hopefully keep us from getting ill.

In the purple box, I have provided a YouTube video to help give a visual of this groundbreaking process.

This vaccine technology is fascinating, and if you are on the proverbial "fence" about taking the COVID vaccine, just the mere science would most likely change your mind. The simple fact that this vaccine has no risk of infection from the vaccine itself is monumental. This vaccine holds a bright future for other types of research, such as cancer, which is the leading cause of death in America.
My mother died of cancer 14 years ago, and the idea that we may be able to take a vaccine to teach our bodies how to fight cancer.😱 Well, that was enough to get me on board and to be apart of this scientific breakthrough.
