Chinese peoples’ increased use of the internet has brought with it an increase in online shopping. Indeed, retail transactions have almost doubled, and the share of internet users has also increased significantly. However, China is still yet to catch up with other countries when it comes to online retail uptake. According to McKinsey, around 2/3 of Chinese people have less than 3 years of online experience. Experience says that netizens develop into online shoppers only after 3 years of online experience, meaning that a boom in online shopping is imminent in China. Many prominent retailers recognise this, and are rapidly expanding their operations in China. They have seen explosive growth; however, they also face challenges, with online shopping being led by consumer-to-consumer transactions to now.
