Assignment 1:

Q1
- One thing that impacts our confidence is how we are treated. For example, if there is positive pressure, we will feel more confident. However, if others doubt us, we will feel less confident.
Q2
- To cultivate confidence, we can try a quick fix. For example, we can strike a powerful pose or give ourselves a pep talk to boost our confidence. We can also believe in our ability to improve. If we have a fixed mindset,
we believe our qualities are fixed traits and therefore cannot change. However, if we have a growth mindset, you'll think that you can improve and a challenge will be an opportunity to learn.
Q3
- Back in primary school I participated in a Malay drama competition. We were one of the top 5 which made me slightly confident but when I saw the other schools perform, they had better designed props and their Malay was really fluent. They also were in their character. Everything looked so perfect compared to my school. Our props were really dull, we didn't have any costumes or make up and our Malay wasn't very fluent since not many people were willing to volunteer. I managed to get through the performance but I was doubting myself so much I couldn't focus. We ended up winning fourth place.
I should have had a positive attitude because with my negetive attitude, it affected my performance.

Q1- One thing impacts confidence is how we are treated which includes the social pressure of our environment. We will feel more positive and confident in a supportive environment and less confident in a negative environment.
Q2- The first way to cultivate our confidence is to believe in our ability to improve. The reason we don't have enough confidence is that we believe out abilities and talents are fixed in birth and locked in place. Subsequently, we may easily give up while we are facing setbacks. However, having a growth mindset and thinking our abilities can improve can help us to face a challenge as an opportunity to learn and grow.
The second way to cultivate our confident is to practice failture. Everyone fails at times but the most important thing is to keep on trying. Practicing failure can help us to be better equipped to respond to challenge and setbacks in a contructive way. For example, we can try out different strategies, ask others for advice and perservere while we are facing challenges. It can be difficult to overcome the challenges but we should always accept the mistakes we made and stay positive and confident.
Q3- Last year when the excos asked us whether anyone wanted to do announcement duty, I lost my confidence and I did not volunteer although most of my friends volunteered. This was because I felt my English was very bad and my friends always told me that I couldnot speak English properly. I scared I could not do well for announcement duty. To overcome the challenge, I should practice my English more frequently with people surround me and I should trust myself that I am able to be a good English speaker.

One way to cultivate confidence is by changing our mindset to a more optimistic one by reminding ourselves we are capable of getting that thing done. One way to gain confidence is to change our mindset to a growth mindset. We should also believe in ourselves on what we do and just move further on and not give up.
3. One incident that made me lose my confidence is that i was supposed to go and talk in front of a large group in primary four. I was told to be an emcee for one of the big events in school, I prepared so much during the weekend that i knew i was going to able to do it. In the end, I ended up stumbling on my words. After that event I was really scared to go up on stage but after giving and event during secondary school for public talking competition i regained my confidence.

State 2 ways.

Firstly, we should believe that we have done our best to reach where we are and take every mistake made as a feedback and opportunity to improve ourselves and not to let the negative comments hinder your learning process. Suggest ways on how you could have overcome/ overcame it?
1 incident was during a presentation in primary school 2 years ago.what happened was that I forgot part of my speech and i was left blank in my mind. I was quickly trying to go through my mind wondering where I had gone wrong and I was scrambling for the information that i knew i had memorized. At that moment, I was just left with crowd no knowing what to say. What i could have done was to prepare short, small and concise hand held notes for me to momentarily look at so that my mind would be constantly refreshed of what i had went through.

1. one thing that can impact confidence is the people and their actions around you, as it affects how you see the world and how you treat it.

2. when i cultivate my confidence, i practise and prepare myself well. practising myself on how to speak and become more confidently makes me more well-prepared for what comes next.

3. it was during last year's prefect interview. it was my first time being interviewed, and i was very nervous. back then, i was a very quiet and shy student, i never spoke up a lot. i saw a lot of students in the same interview as me, and they looked like they were very well-prepared for the interview. i wanted to make a good first impression but i lost confidence and hope. i told myself to stay strong. when they asked us some of the questions, i tried to stay calm after i panicked for awhile, as i wanted to speak but forgot what i wanted to say. i was relieved when the interview was over, and i learnt that even if i had thought i didn't make it through the interview, what matters is that you learn from your mistakes to make a better future, which leads to where i am now.
