"It was a test ... a puzzle. And they were the guinea pigs" This quote shows that Cade and the others are all stuck in this "Game" and that they were being forced to play it. This is important to the story because it tells that there was a way to "win," even though they don't know how. It also shows that there are "pieces" that will hint and lead them to their survival.

This is important because it gives the group a sense of time. Also, it tells them that this "game" isn't really what they expected when, the entire time, they thought they were playing the "Game", the "Game" wasn't even getting started

Also, this means that their adventure is coming to a close and that that they might survive this "Game", or they might not.

The theme of the book is: friendship is incredibly important in life. This is the theme because if Cade and his friends didn't help each other out and stick together, they would have killed each other for survival. This relates to Proverbs 18:24, which states, "One who has unreliable friends soon comes to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother." This relates to the story because they worked together instead of attacking each other, which would ultimately lead to them dying.
