This picture shows an African american and a white person shaking hands. This reminded me of when Magee went into the colored side of the town and he met Amanda where they became friends. This was highly unusual because this was still back when blacks didn't have equal rights. This was a contrast and contradictions because normally Amanda was shy and stayed away from all the white people. But she didn't run from Magee she stood there and introduced herself shaking his hand. The character is doing this because she doesn't feel threatened by Magee. She noticed that Magee is harmless and even friendly. In the book Maniac Magee I noticed that Magee is a very polite person. I noticed this because when he moved in with Amanda's family he made life sooo much easier for her mom. He cleaned his room, he cleaned up after himself, He washed dishes, and he kept the little siblings out of trouble. I think one of thee reasons he is doing this is because his parents taught him to always be very polite. I also think this because they are letting him live with them because he doesn't have a home. In the book Maniac Magee I predict that Magee will run away from his aunt and uncles home. Because they refuse to talk to each other so they have two of everything so they don't have to share too. At Magees chorus concert when his aunt sat on one side of the auditorium and his uncle sat on the other. That's when Magee lost it. He started screaming "Talk will ya." Then he started losing it. So I predict he will just run away from his problems. I noticed this when Maniac ran right into the black side of town. This is when the two races were still in segregation. He just walked right into it like it was nothing at all. This made me realize he has no clue what is going on. And he also said that he doesn't consider African Americans black or him white.
