It means the act of stealing, or the taking of goods by force, typically in the midst of a military, political, or other social crisis.

WHAT CAUSED LOOTING IN SOUTH AFRICA?
.In response to an imprisonment of Jacob Zuma, a group of loyalists to former president Jacob Zuma were being held responsible for the looting. Their alleged goal was to weaken and undermine the current president, Cyril Ramaphosa.

HOW DOES LOOTING AFFECTED SOUTH AFRICA?
.Small businesses were severely affected by looting, especially the small businesses including spaza shops, They lost income and some of them lost their own stock during the looting and making it difficult for businesses to recover from their losses. looting resulted in food shortage, fuel shortage shortage which then affected transportation of goods and services from one place to another and most of people lost their jobs because their workplace was vandalised . Kwa-Zulu natal and Gauteng account for more than half of South Africa gross domestic product {GDP} during the looting around July, local currency weakened by by about 2% affecting the economy . Looting also caused an increase in unemployment. looting affected the tourism in South Africa. Many people lost their relatives during looting.
WHAT CAN POLICE DO TO STOP LOOTING?
I think the best thing for the police to do is to contain or stop the spread of the looting to stop it from moving to a next area and to disperse crowds with the rubber bullets or tear gas.

Looting during Covid-19 was utterly understandable but is still illegal. People do many crazy things out of desperation, but that does not make it right. Protesting by doing criminal activities defeats the purpose of wanting fairness or something to change. Two wrongs do not create a right.

Looting further increases the prices of the same essential items people cannot afford. Businesses are hugely affected, and people lose their jobs.

I am not sure if there is a way to stop looting, I would like to read more regarding this because injurying people is not a good way to keep them under control.

I fail to understand that why people would cause havoc on their areas I mean wht would they want to be the cause if families who will suffer because of they gave lost their jobs like what happened to UBUNTU in this country how could a person be so selfish and ruin someone's hard work and sweat. This looting really affected the economy of the country because many many people lost their jobs not just any people but those people are bread winners in their families. The looting had a big impact on the economy because it increased the unemployment rate in the country and those who are working a tax was increased from them. Like these poeple saw that the countrywas still facing a disaster (covid 19) which left many people unemployed. I sometimes don't understand our people really like from my point of view the is no educated person who could do such knowing very well how hard itwas for the owner to get that far whith his or her business. I find these looters really stupid like if anyone of them could get arrested do they think that Jacob Zuma would do such for them like really

I totally agree with you there, whereby you mentioned that looting took us back as a country, because we are on a building phase after the state capture saga. The looting meant that the state had to use the money that was meant for other things to fix the damage caused by the looter's, as much as we blame the government we must also put the blame on us because the are ways that we can use to show our anger not by stealing. I mean I understand the trigger was hunger and poverty.
