Brene Brown Video:

Labeling emotions is definitely incredibly important. We need to understand what emotion we are feeling so we are able to experience, feel it, and find a way to cope through the emotion whether it's negative or positive. It can change your perspective because then you're able to understand what you are feeling, manage it better, and then help others cope or find strategies that will help them through them as well.

Chapter 4:

The mood meter is a way for adults and children identify new vocabulary words to describe what they are feeling in the moment. It can be a way to compartmentalize visually and understand if the emotions they feel are less or more extreme based on types of words being used.

Culture, experience, and contextual factors play a major role in not only identifying emotions, but also how you handle the emotion you feel. Different cultures handle emotions in a very different way, none being the same. Everyone go through similar experiences, but no experience is the same. People live through and deal with trauma and the emotions that go with that in different ways. Understanding this can help you decide how to approach a situation. Contextual factors change based on culture and experiences of others, so those change how people react or handle their emotions in certain situations. Once we are able to understand this, then handling emotions or approaching situations can help us not only understand people around us but ourselves as well.

Chapter 5:

We can ask them what the problem is. We can show books or sing songs to help them understand emotions better. We can have authentic conversations from songs and books to help students understand what they are feeling to help with emotional outbursts.

Four Quadrants Vocabulary Definitions:

Fatigued is when you feel drained and exhausted.

Alienated is when you are being left out or isolated from a group.
