Lifestyle that includes a series of skills, knowledge, rituals, symbols and traditions and which is based on the sharing of food, the sense of hospitality and neighborhood, creativity as well as full respect for the territory and its biodiversity typical of these communities. The expression "Mediterranean Diet" refers to that particular type of diet that is typical of the countries bordering the Mediterranean Sea. Italy, Croatia, Greece, Spain, Portugal, Morocco and other countries bordering this sea are in fact characterized by very similar characteristics from a gastronomic point of view.

BENEDETTA NEBBIA LA PIARAMIDE ALIMENTARE The food pyramid of the Mediterranean Diet shows us at a glance which foods are typical of this eating style, what we should eat, how often and in what quantity. Over time, various versions have been created, the result of continuous research and updates, but all of them show the foods to be consumed in more moderation at the top and gradually lowering those that should be introduced more frequently for a balanced diet. Fundamental pillars are the intake of water in high quantities (and the practice of regular physical activity. The foods at the base of the pyramid are those that should be consumed at every main meal. and / or derivatives, to be consumed preferably in their integral version as they are richer in fiber and characterized by a lower glycemic index. Above, the foods to be introduced daily such as natural milk and yogurt, dried fruit, olives and oil seeds. As condiments extra virgin olive oil, garlic, onion, spices and aromatic herbs to be used as an alternative to salt, butter, margarine and sauces. Going up we find the foods to be consumed weekly; most are protein sources among which fish and legumes are to be preferred, with at least two weekly portions each, poultry, eggs from 2 to 4 per week and cheeses no more than a couple of portions per week of about 100 g if fresh or 50g if seasoned. Finally, at the top, we find the products that should be consumed in moderation and only occasionally, both from the point of view of quantity and frequency: red meats and processed meats, sweets, carbonated drinks, alcoholic general all simple sugars. Other very important aspects highlighted by the pyramid are seasonality and origin. Preferring seasonal fruit and vegetables, as well as local products, means both limiting preservatives and food additives, and encouraging an eco-sustainable and low environmental impact production model. Choosing seasonal and zero kilometer foods leads to a reduction in gas emissions and allows you to always bring fresh, tastier and healthier foods to the table. However, when this is not possible - or when you want an out of season ingredient - choosing organic products is a good way to avoid substances that are harmful to both the body and the ecosystem. All organically grown foods are produced without chemical treatments and are packaged favoring the exclusion of artificial flavors and preservatives.
