To encourage my students.
To help my students. understand they are special and unique.
To show my students how smart they really are, even when they might disagree with me.

As a teacher it will be my responsibility to listen to what my students are telling me. This can be shown through their schoolwork, or just by their actions throughout the school day.

As a teacher, I need to be available to my students. I need to interact with them and get to know them. It says in chapter 10 of "American Eduction", "teachers find their greatest rewards in interacting with students." Therefore, the better I know my students, the more helpful I can be for them.

Teaching is a learning process. The more I teach, the more I learn. I know that when I teach, I need to be inclusive for all my students.I need to make sure no child is left behind. On page 140 of our American Education book, its says "The term inclusion is the most frequently used word to refer to the integration of children with disabilities into regular classrooms." This means that there is a good possibility that as a teacher, I will have some students in my classroom, that will need to take a little more time than the rest of the classroom. I need to learn how to handle these situations in my classroom. The only way I am going to know what ways I can move my classroom forward together, is by learning. Teaching is a learning process.

According to chapter 2 in our American Education book, some of the main purposes of schooling include "creating a sense of community, improve the nutrition of students, and reducing crime through moral instruction."

These are all very good examples of the purposes of schooling. When children go to school, they are given a chance to create their own classroom community with their peers and teachers.

There are also in some cases where schools provide meals for students whose families are not able to do so. This gives students a chance to learn about nutrition and what is good for their bodies.

Schooling also provides the education students need to to make good choices. Also by providing after school activities it keeps students out of trouble and away from becoming part of the school to prison pipeline

I believe students learn best when they feel safe. By creating a sense of community in the classroom, the students will know their peers and teachers well enough to open up and learn. According to chapter 2 in "American Education" one of the social goals of schooling is to create a sense of community through after school programs and extracurricular activities. By participating in activities with other students, it gives kids a chance to feel like they belong and can learn.

Also in chapter five of out book, it talks about Equality of Educational Opportunity . This refers to everyone an equal chance to receive an education. If the students feel like they are being treated equally and receiving the same type of education as everyone else they will learn better.

(Emdin, page 21)

A community can provide a lot of insight when it comes to learning about your students. To know where your students live and what their day to day lives look like can provide helpful information when it comes to teaching.

Community and family go hand in hand. Sometimes a community is a person's family. A community can have a big influence on the way a family raises their children, and what aspects they have on life and schooling.

When some people think of the term "teacher activist" they may think about teachers sticking up for one another. If some teachers are not making enough money or don't have the materials they need for the class, teachers will band together to get what they need.

In Chapter 10 of "American Education" it lists some things that teachers band together to fight for because they are so passionate about them. Some of these things include teachers' rights and liabilities, teachers' unions, teachers' salaries and turnover, and No Child Left Behind and Race to the Top.

Others may see a teacher activist being the person who speaks for their students when their voices can not be heard. No Child Left Behind is a good thing to bring up with this. In chapter 10 of "American Education" it says teachers need to be highly qualified and trained to ensure they are able to give and do all they can for each and every one of their students to succeed.

I believe that a teacher is both an activist for his/her fellow teachers and for his/her students. They have a voice that they are using to make sure their peers and students are getting what they nee to succeed.
