When aluminium is heated, particles gain kinetic energy and vibrate faster about their fixed positions. Thermal energy is absorbed from the surroundings and the temperature of the aluminium is at 660 (its melting point). Orderly packed particles is disrupted and aluminium becomes solid-liquid mixture. The temperature remains constant till all the aluminium is melted. After the aluminium is fully melted, thermal energy is converted to kinetic energy of the particles. Particles can now move freely throughout the liquid.
