On August 29, 1632, John Locke was born. He was born and raised in Wrighton, Somerset. John's father (also named John) was a lawyer, but during the English Civil Wars fought on the Parliamentarian side. John's father used his ties/connections and was able to get John into the Elite Westminster School. John also went to and taught at the Christ Church in Oxford. There he studied the standard curriculum of logic, metaphysics, and classics. He also studied Medicine. In 1666, John Locke met politician, Anthony Ashley Cooper, the first Earl of Shaftesbury household. Soon after the two became close friends, John became the physician for the Shaftesbury house. Later that year, Locke performed liver surgery on Anthony that saved his life. During the decades Locke worked at Shaftesbury, he had been writing. He published 4 books; "Essay Concerning Human Understanding"(1689), "Two Treatises of Government"(1690), "Some Thoughts Concerning Education"(1693), and "Letters Concerning Toleration"(1689-92). John Locke Jr. died in October of 1704, at the age of 72.

One of John Locke's ideas was in his book, "Essay Concerning Human Understanding." This book is about his concern of the foundation of human knowledge and understanding. Human knowledge means having an awareness or understanding of someone or something.

Another one of John Locke's ideas was in his book, "Two Treatises of Government." This book rejects the idea of the divine rights of King. This means he doesn't believe that God gives Kings the right to do/make us do what they want. The book is also arguing for a limited Constitutional Government. This means he is arguing for our individual rights. The last thing the book talks about is, that he supports the idea of natural rights. This means that he believes everyone is born with rights.

In my opinion, he influenced the government a lot. One way he influenced the govenment was he supported/came up with the idea that everyone is born with natural rights. In America, everyone no matter what the look like, how old they are, or where they are from has the same equal rights. Another way he influenced the govenment was that he didn't believe that God gave Kings the power to do or make other people do what they want them to do. In the United States we have The 3 Branches of Government (not a king), this means that not just one person can tell us what we can and can not do.
