Second Age of Empire: The time period between 1750 to 1875 which saw the emergence of informal empires, empires in which control over other peoples and lands is exerted economically and socially. This came after many American colonies gained independence and European nations needed non-political ways to create empires and gain power.

Decolonization: The period between 1945 to 1960 in which many countries, especially in Africa and Southeast Asia, gained independence.

Stiglitz also references how big 'G'lobalization is largely a made up conncept that is used to justify neoliberal policies

Friedman discusses the intricacies of globalization and seems to be relatively optimistic regarding the concepts ofbig 'G'lobalization.
