2. 을사의병은 을사늑약 체결에 저항하여 일어났으며 신돌석 같은 평민 출신의 의병장들도 본격적으로 의병으로 등장하였다. 
정미의병은 1907년 일제의 군대 해산으로 인해 일어났으며  해산군인들이 대거 의병으로 가담함으로써 의병전쟁으로 발전하는 계기가 되었다
