Is it positive, negative, neutral?

We never heard about these stereotypes. In our opinion the Stereotypes with the ketchup or Chewing gums are neutral. It’s positive that the Americans are very friendly and open-minded.

What consequences could these types of stereotypes have in the classroom?

We think these stereotypes don’t have an affect in the classroom. But it can help those American children to find friends in their free-time because the others know that they are open-minded.

What is the effect it might have on someone who doesn't know this culture?

Probably they think that the eating habits are weird. But at the same time you can have a positive impression about the people there.

(Jana Epp, Sarina Züger)

Comment:
I think most of the things you discussed were very factual and realistic. But I think it is also important to remember that not all families are exactly like your host families.

When i thought about England, the rain and the tea came also up to my mind. It's interessting how you have diffrent opinions about the tea stereotype (Alina).

Comment:
Tea and rain.. yes we totally agree with you. Also the beer. They drink beer so eary in the afternoon in their pubs. We also thought about the british people in holiday. They nearly never get a tan, they just get sunburnt. The british people are also very polite. They call everyone darling or honey.
(Larissa, Selina, Livia)
