Leadership matters in terms of systems approach. When Jane came to Moorpark, in the new teacher training/onboarding, we do training with them as well as with parents. Because we have the common language around this strategy - STOIC model, etc - also ask to highlight artifacts - how are they implementing CHAMPS?

School sites stronger in implementation keep the conversation going. Can ask them - what have you structured for those activities that follow the CHAMPS model? 2.0 is teachers recognizing that they may need to fine tune CHAMPS implementation based on specific activities / behaviors.

Messaging: Loved that they're connecting with every student everyday. They weren't just bought into it, they were doing it every day--it's so simple and so great! Three signature practices has been huge for other COEs, it helps keeps SEL top-of-mind--I'm doing SEL when I'm doing these practices.

As a district, Ventura has a common message around expectations for implementation. Throughout the leadership forums (2x per month with principals) that do data chats. CHAMPS will surface and keep that conversation going throughout the year.

Using the signature practices in all the meetings - building that standard - modeled at the Tuolumne county office, and is inspired that they implement it through the entire org and build it in to the entire culture.

Compassionate systems framework - has that woven its way into classrooms?

Ventura: Fortunate to be partnered for 4 years. Starting with admin, went through the training. They tasked with implementing a tool at site level meetings. Following year, CSF work with wellness counselors and peers. They were guiding us in that they wanted to work with students, so we looked at what area were we trying to focus on? Peers wanted more training.

Worked with the students throughout the year. By the time they finished, got about two days worth of training but didn't formally attend the two day training.

Parent assembly towards the end of the year, SEL consultant helped to do a session introducing those skills/strategies that the students had learned from him. Parents feeling engaged -> elementary schools have STEAM night, some do a fall festival, a lot of ways to invite the parents into the school and makes them feel connected.
