My favorite children's book is The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds.

This book is about a young girl named Vashti who believes she can't draw. With the encouragement of her teacher, she begins by making just one small dot on a piece of paper. This simple act sparks her creativity and confidence, leading her on a journey of self-expression and discovery. The Dot beautifully conveys the power of perseverance, creativity, and believing in oneself. It's an inspiring story that encourages children to take that first step, no matter how small, and to embrace their own artistic and intellectual potential.

Though I love fiction, I really love the genre of personal essays. This collection by novelist and essayist Ann Patchett, These Precious Days, features essays that distill meaning from life, both small moments and multi-year realizations. Patchett writes about family, friends, and life in the early days of the Pandemic. Some essays are serious, others are funny; all will leave the reader reflecting.

This is a book filled with wonderful quotes about life. I always get something new when I read it that is appropriate for me at the time of the reading. It has become a required 9th-grade book in my English class. If you are interested, let me know, and I'm happy to lend you a copy. It's a short, philosophical read.
