My favorite childrens books is The Letter for the King by Tonke Dragt.

The book is about a young aspiring knight, Tiuri who goes on a dangerous journey trying to deliver a secret letter meant for a far away king. Being chased by his enemies, he finds friends in along the way overcoming ambushes, imprisonment and betrayal. After successfully completing his quest, Tiuri returns home and is knighted for his courage and honor.
