I drew another set to represent the second set (4). Then I put a big circle around the whole set,  I should label each set -- 4 on top, 6 on bottom, and then the whole set = 10. Does this picture make it clear? I could also use the Counting All strategy and label each dot with a number 1-10. Or I could use the counting on strategy and start numbering the dots after 6. One way to draw this is with a bar model. So you would start with 4 and 6 in each part box on top, and a question mark in the whole bo, because that is what you are solving for.
