Jonas asks why so much pain and he starts to wonder why he can't be released and wants to get back to his childhood.
When Jonas was going through all of this pain he was reconsidering being the memory keeper and being in his childhood.

Jonas went from being all nice and positive to being weirded out by the community and keeping secrets from the giver. I know this because in the book the giver, Jonas says that he has a secret that he is keeping from the giver.

You might be thinking, this must be a bad book if the main character was an angel and then he turned into this but it’s more than that.
