To what extent was Bismarck’s dealings with political parties successful in the years 1871-1890?
From the years 1871-1890, Otto von Bismarck was the imperial chancellor of the second Reich. In the Parliament, or Reichstag, he abused his power with different parties.
Bismarck's dealings with the Socialist and Democratic Party of Germany and the Catholic Centre Party were to no extent successful in the years 1871-1890.
The Socialist and Democratic Party was formed to overthrow the existing order and nationalising industries. The Catholic Centre Party, was affiliated to the Catholic Church and was slowly gaining power.
Bismarck attempted to weaken the Socialist and Democratic Party by passing an anti-Socialist bill, however this only strengthened the party, which was therefore ineffective. Bismarck's creation of the May Laws of 1873, in an attempt to hinder the Catholic Centre Party's sudden growth in power. His efforts failed to prevail which then strengthened the church as a result.

Ques- How was Bismarck’s diplomatic skill responsible for bringing about the unification of Germany in the years 1862-1871?
Paragraph
Bismarck used policies which involved military and realpolitik

to annex fragmented states, which was a vital step to bring forward the unification of Germany during 1862-1871. Before the events which followed in the mentioned time period, Austria was the most powerful and Prussia was the largest Germanic countries present in Europe. Otto von Bismarck was a junker present in Prussia and set out to unify these territories of Austria and the rest of Germanic states. This resulted in wars which involved Austria and parts of France. Bismarck uses realpolitik by rewriting and released in the press a telegram, making as if Wilhelm “insulted” the French embassador.

To what extent was the Kulturkampf a political misjudgement by Bismarck?

In the German Empire, Otto von Bismarck, the chancellor, was against the Catholic religion and wanted to diminish the chances of revolt and by cutting off their connections to the Vatican. Kulturkampf was a political misjudgment made by Bismarck to a great extent. Kulturkampf was the anti-catholic campaign run by Bismarck in 1871. Bismarck’s efforts with the Kulturkampf only ended up strengthening the Catholic Centre Party. With this unity, the catholic centre party diminished the political capitol, which is power based on fear, actions, and ranking.

How did Bismarck attempt to create a National Identity in Germany and to what extent was this a success?

Bismarck attempted to create a National Identity between the years of 1871-1890 in Germany by negatively integrating the Poles, Danes, and french into German customs. These national minorities were forced to go by german customs.	Bismarck was successfully able to germanize the minorities in the german empire by changing the Even though poles native language to german, as well with the danes and the french, also by creating the Kulturkampf( the anti-catholic campaign), something used to weaken the catholic center party. By Bismarck changing the nations native languages, he strengthened the unifictionation of germany and allowed them to be unified under only one language, rather than over 3. By Bismarck initiating the Kulturkampf he could ensure that germany could be unified under only 1 religion, protestant.

How did Bismarck attempt to create a National Identity in Germany and to what extent was this a success?

In the 1870’s, Bismarck attempted to create a National Identity for Germany by using Negative Integration, in this case Germanisation. Bismarck’s goal was to unite and expand Germany, as he was loyal to the Prussian Royal Family. They conquered many lands and forced the different territories under their control to integrate with the German culture. Germanisation is the act of turning different cultures more German. Bismarck had Germanised the French and had them learn German, he also didn’t allow them to practise their own religions. The French would have the same rights but wouldn’t have any involvement in the federal council and were also administered by the reich government. Bismarck used a manipulative plan to Germanise the Poles. He put Germans in Polish areas (within the German empire) and had them turn the Poles in the area more German. By doing this, Bismarck was trying to create a sole nationality in the German empire: German; and he used Negative integration, specifically Germanisation, to attempt to achieve this. Unfortunately for the Germans, Bismarck only succeeded in these nationalities revolting against the German empire, therefore it was not a success

Question:
How was Bismarck’s diplomatic skill responsible for bringing about the unification of Germany in the years 1862-1871?

Thesis:

Otto von Bismarck’s diplomatic skill and use of realpolitik when it came to the control of his people and the annexation of new territories brought about the unification of Germany.

Clarification:

Realpolitik, which was Bismarck’s prefered form of politics, was based on the idea that practicality comes over morals. Bismarck’s mastery of this political strategy won him many debates during his time as chancellor. Annexation, as defined by Google, is simply “the action of annexing something, especially territory”.

H.B:

In the year of 1862 the Prussian people woke up to a new leader and a powerful one, this leader was Otto von Bismarck, a junker and a loyal “hound” to the royals and ruthless when ruling. His new tactic of “Realpolitik” granted him very many powers and basically transformed him into a dictator. His ruthless rule was demonstrated by his kulturkampf, which basically said they needed to punish the minorities in german land. He went down in history as a hero and a monster.

Supporting Claim #1:

One of his most controversial policies, the kulturkampf was implemented through realpolitik and for his persuasive self which made the policy be accepted in the parliament and his political persecution of catholics within german land.

Supporting Claim #2:

Bismarck was an expert at taking over neighbouring cultures. His idea that there shouldn’t be any harsh terms of peace after battles won by the Prussians left their enemies with no desire to get revenge.
