She realizes that being a writer doesn’t have to mean being isolated like Mom—instead a writer can be intimately acquainted with the world, and “know what was really going on.” Jeannette decides that this is what she wants to do.

The picture below is relevant to the above quote of Jeannette finally finding a good place to be because it's people working at a newspaper which is how Jeannette realized what she wanted to do in life. The theme of coming of age and identity is present because Jeannette found her place and grew up to be an amazing writer.

Forgiveness

“I could not imagine what my life would be like- without him in it. As awful as he could be, I always knew he loved me in a way no one else ever had.”
-Jeannette Walls

The picture below represents erasing the past and I believe that is a good representation of the theme of forgiveness. Although the Walls children always had it rough, their parents never left them and Jeannette says she wouldn't know the person she is today if it weren't for the experiences her parents gave her while growing up.

Non-Conformity

“Why do I always have to be the one who earns the money?” Mom asked. “You have a job. You can earn money. Lori can earn money, too. I’ve got more important things to do.” - Rose Mary Walls

The picture is a person going in the opposite direction of other people because they don't follow the rules and they prefer to do what they want. The theme of non-conformity is best portrayed by Rose Mary Walls because she doesn't think she needs to get a job and she believes the kids can do all the work for the family.

“But I’m goddamn proud of you, Mountain Goat, the way you turned out. Whenever I think of you, I figure I must have done something right.”
-Rex Walls

The picture of the mountain goat is to resemble the time when Rex called Jeannette his mountain goat. This is an example of unconditional love because no matter what happened, Rex continued to love and be proud of Jeannette endlessly.

"You think I'm some sort of goddamn charity case." -Rex Walls

This picture below resembles the idea that Rex and Rose Mary don't except any sort of charity. This is relevant to the theme of self sufficiency because, when Jeannette attempts to give her father new clothes, he denies them and gets up and leaves.

“We had some times, didn't we?'
'We did.'
'Never did build that Glass Castle.'
'No. But we had fun planning it.”
-Jeannette and Rex Walls

The glass castle which is in the picture below, demonstrated a theme of broken promises. The glass castle represents broken promises because Rex always told the kids it would eventually get built but he just let it become a place for all their trash to get dumped into.
