The Mexican-American war was controversial due to many facts. Some say, the war was a result of traders wanting to expand harbors to the east of United States, allowing for easier trade with countries in Asia. Others say, that the slaves states only supported the war to increase more slave states to overpower the free slave states. For Polk, the American President at the time, he intentional provoked Mexico into war as Polk desired the land like many other people in the United States which belonged to Mexico.

Mexico and the United States, both powerful and unique countries, are not only intertwined in issues affecting their citizens, but also supply each other with necessary supplies needed to thrive. Currently, Mexico and United States share a two thousand mile border and have a insane 1.25 billion dollar two way trade each day! Both Mexico and the United States gain from the two way trade and both countries also make money through US and Mexican tourist traveling into the other country. It is estimated that 20.3 million US tourists in 2012 travel to Mexico,while about 13.4 million Mexican tourist travel to America. With about 78 percent of Mexico's export going to the United States and Mexico becoming one of the largest suppliers, sustaining the United States need of foreign crude oil. Indeed there is a mutualism between Mexico and the United States’s economy.

Gold Rush: The Gold Rush, was a rapid movement of people to newly discovered goldfields, first discovered in Sierra Valley. In January, James Marshal was working in the California Sierra Nevada, where he discovered gold at Sutter Mill. Foreigners all over the world came to Sacramento, California to look for gold. Everyone left their work and abandoned everything, in hopes of looking for more gold. San Francisco became “a pandemonium” of the city. Although many people from all around the world came for the gold rush, including the Chinese, Free African Americans, Mexicans, and slaves, the competition was fierce and not all could reach the fortune imaged in the Gold Rush.

The Mexican-American War was a war between Mexico and America, from 1846-1848, in which America declared war against Mexico. This war, was majority one sided as America’s army and leadership were far superior to that of Mexico. Winning almost all battles, America marched through Mexico and utterly destroyed Mexico. Finally, in Feb. 2, 1848, the war came to a close with the signing of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo.

The Mexican-American War, a war lasting from 1846-1848, finally resulted in peace with The Treaty of Guadalupe between American and Mexico. This treaty, gave America 525,000 square miles to the United States, increased the United States by a enlarging the country by 1/3. Not only did this treaty give the United States present-day states, including California, Nevada, New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, Wyoming, and Utah, but it also forced Mexico to recognize Texas as a part of America with American’s boundary to Mexico the Rio Grande. However, not all was lost in Mexico, as Mexico did gain $15 million from America, written in the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo to remove disputes of claims of U.S. citizens to Mexico and give America currently owned land for Mexico.
