At the end of the 19th century, two orphaned siblings from Ireland, Mary and Tom, immigrate to America. Alone and with little supplies, they must cross the country from New York to California, where their uncle is waiting for them. On their way they will meet and befriend Nick, a boy with paralysis, and other children looking for a family. No, this is not a drama, but a cute, good-hearted road movie to the West.

Cuerdas tells us the story of a young child who suffers cerebral palsy many years ago in Spain. The child cannot move and is always in his wheelchair. At that time children who suffered this condition were either not given the right treatment or did not have access to the right therapies. The main character in this short film is sent to an orphanage where Maria, a young girl, starts spending time with him and taking care of him. Maria will use "cuerdas", ropes, to help him move and play games. Their bond and friendship grows stronger and Maria dedicates more of her free time to be with the new student. When Maria becomes a teacher for children with severe disabilities many years later, she still wears a rope around her wrist in memory of her friend.

Being polite, empathetic and kind is not an attitude but rather something that is built over time. Educating kindness is a complex and continuous process that is built day by day through example, coherence, empathy and availability.

Children in fact need to breathe kindness and live in environments where attention, care and delicacy towards others dominate in order to grow up with hearts inhabited by respect and the ability to give themselves to others without asking or expecting anything in return. Knowing how to be kind means having experienced kind ways and being able to relate to oneself and others in a positive way.

The kindness advent calendar is a simple and fun toolIn this calendar, day after day, the children will take turns taking the card where they will find a message with simple instructions for carrying out small acts of kindness and gestures of care towards others. This can be a beautiful way to remind or teach them how beautiful it can be to give a kind gesture or word to others.

Respect for People with Disabilities

Respect for people with disabilities starts with society accepting differences and understanding that people with disabilities have equal rights. People with disabilities deserve respect, understanding, and opportunities, just like anyone else. Their participation in society not only helps them overcome physical barriers, but also breaks down emotional and social barriers.

Respect begins with simple actions: approaching people with disabilities carefully, understanding their needs, and always seeing them as individuals with equal rights. Showing respect for people with disabilities in society requires empathy and support. When everyone makes this effort, we can create a more inclusive and understanding community.

Respect for people with disabilities should be shown not only with words but also through actions. Making their lives easier, ensuring accessibility, and supporting their daily activities are everyone's responsibility. It is important to remember that everyone has a different story and way of life, but respect makes everyone equal.
