It is so important to live in the present and enjoy every game/practice/event, because we never know when it will be our last one. Another takeaway from this section of the book was confidence vs. arrogance. There is a big different between these two terms, and I think it is all too common to see student-athletes turning confidence into arrogance.

You need to get to know your athlete and build that connection with each athlete. It also is important to do team bonding activities where your athletes get to know each other on a deeper level, which will help them perform better all around. Building these connections within the team will help them be motivated to play and have the confidence they need.

My biggest takeaway was that you have to be more than just a coach. Being a successful coach is more than winning games its more about helping develop young athletes. Along with developing relationships will also contribute to better team chemistry and success.

Some of the biggest take aways from Chapters 15-17 and the ending of the book were a focus on the journey (not the result), and the ability to leave a legacy with your players. Reach your players on the 2nd and 3rd dimensions and have an impact on their lives outside of just the sport you are coaching. I also thought chapter 17 was interesting where he talked about the weekly productive breakfast meetings.

My biggest takeaway from the book was building relationships with your players, as a coach, is really important. Coaches that can do this help players become better on the field because the players trust and respect their coach and they learn team cohesion while becoming better teammates and better people off the field.
