Hello, my name is Dianelys Gonzalez, and I like to be addressed as Dia. I am twenty-three years old and in my fifth semester at MDC. I am presently a live student, although my home campus as a full-time student is the north campus. I was born and raised in Hialeah, but now call Coral Terrance home. My major is Psychology, and I am highly interested in the mental health of those who have experienced trauma. In my spare time, I enjoy reading books and watching anime, television series, and films. In my spare time, I also edit videos. Although studying is my main ambition and objective right now, I have another thing to look forward to summer. This summer, I will spend eight days in England studying abroad with an MDC faculty-led program called: Following the Global Pathway to Criminal Justice Using Statistics. So, in addition to graduation, I am looking forward to my studies abroad.

It's also unjust that millions of dollars are being poured into beachfront estates while lower-income inland properties are left to fend for themselves when it comes to rising sea levels, climate change, and even storms and hurricanes. Despite this, individuals with money continue to strive to acquire houses since they are better able to handle such harsh realities. What I've learnt about Gentrification is that individuals with money who desire higher land and would go to any length to obtain and it will only affect the people they unintentionally or uncaringly put in danger to get the property. With increasing sea levels and global warming, it will gradually rise over time. Climate change is a REAL and HUGE concern that we must not ignore, although others may argue that it would have occurred with or without humans. What I have learned is that climate change encourages migration from flood-prone areas to high-elevation places, making homes costly; emphasizes the need for new climate solutions; which is why we should work harder to find more and better answers to this problem.

I. For decades, the inhabitants of St. James Parish, Louisiana, have had to live in a world without clean air to breathe due to hazardous pollution from plastic manufacturing companies. Sharon Lavigne was born and raised in St. James Parish, Louisiana, sometimes known as Cancer Alley due to the community's abnormally high cancer rates caused by petrochemical production. The Plants would declare it would bring new jobs as a positive, but by the time one Factory settled, it was too late, and more and more factories began. For decades, everyone in the neighborhood had been becoming sick and dying from cancer. The same plants that had moved in town, offering new jobs, were poisoning the air. The community banded together, marched, and brought attention to their concerns. Sharon Lavigne exemplifies the struggle to save her town. The battle to one day have clean air again. Sharon Lavigne was successful in stopping the development of a $1.25 billion plastics manufacturing factory beside the Mississippi River in 2019.

II.
Goal: Good Health & Well Being (Specific Topic: Psychological Well Being)

At its most basic, psychological well-being (PWB) is relatively comparable to other terminology that relates to good mental states, such as happiness or contentment, and in many respects, worrying about minor distinctions between such concepts is neither required nor beneficial. Psychological well-being is an important aspect of mental health that includes hedonic (enjoyment, pleasure) and eudaimonic (meaning, fulfillment) happiness, as well as resilience (coping, emotion regulation, healthy problem solving). I feel that our psychological well-being is crucial, if not THE most vital well-being we should prioritize. What keeps us going from wanting to enjoy life to genuinely loving life is our psychological state.

Sources:

https://www.columbian.com/news/2021/jun/15/meditation-doing-little-achieving-a-lot/

Sustainable energy is critical to achieving our global climate objectives. To discuss nuclear power (without explicitly limiting it to sustainable fusion, which is extremely promising but at least 10 or rather 20 years away to be economically viable). when it is evident to everyone that fission energy is both ecologically and socially unsustainable. Hints at the fact that, while The Economist is generally a very valid and reputable publication, particularly for geopolitical and macroeconomic analysis, it is, after all, owned by some specific editors with their own interests and agenda (in this case, to promote against honest best societal interest nuclear fission as a seemingly credible alternative to true renewable SUSTAINABLE zero-carbon energy to achieve). If we don't begin aggressively reducing emissions by 2030, hopefully, and reach zero by 2040-2045, so that the whole economy may achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, we won't be able to prevent catastrophic repercussions and extinction.

What piqued my interest in the mini-lecture was how much area wind turbines require in order to perform. I would have assumed it would be the one that didn't require much room, but I guess it did in order for each wind turbine to effectively convert the wind into power. According to WINDExchange, a Wind turbine must be located upwind of buildings and trees and 30 feet above anything within a 500-foot horizontal radius. You'll also need space to raise and lower the tower for maintenance, and if your tower is guyed, you'll need space for the guy cables.

WINDExchange: Small Wind Guidebook

https://youtu.be/DW0jTe80kmM

A divergent boundary occurs when two tectonic plates move away from each other. Along these boundaries, earthquakes are common and magma (molten rock) rises from the Earth's mantle to the surface, solidifying to create new oceanic crust. The Mid-Atlantic Ridge is an example of divergent plate boundaries.

I chose the goal of good health and well-being, so I went more in-depth into the topic of psychological well-being. The reason why I chose to speak and research more on that topic is that my major is psychology and I do believe that we can heal the world a little at a time by healing the scars on our minds.

Padlet Peer Review: Amber

For the peer padlet review, I chose to pick Amber, and off the bat, you can see Amber chose to go with a very colorful and straightforward padlet style. I especially like how minimal it is and how she chose to talk about clean water and its importance to us to survive. How poorer countries deserve clean water and sanitation as well because it's a basic human right and how unclean water could lead to many illnesses and could lead to bad health and even death. She spoke on how billions of people need water and sanitation and even shared links to some organizations that help with such missions and goals. Overall I do like Ambers padlet and her overall approach to informing us in such a very understanding way while also providing us with extra information on organizations that could help just in case we the reader was more interested in the topic.

Desalination

"Desalination can be a sustainable way to replenish our water cycle," wrote the authors of a European Commission-backed study last year, arguing for greater use of desalination around the globe in collaboration with efforts to reduce its environmental effect, at least according to The Washington Post. However, the procedure is energy-intensive, costly, and difficult to handle in an environmentally friendly manner. There are two methods: you can boil the water and then capture the vapor, leaving the salt behind. Alternatively, you can force the water through filters that capture the salt but allow the liquid to pass through. I believe the better and more efficient method is the second option I mentioned. We can try and build a saltwater planet that deals with filtering out the salt from the seawater into drinkable water. Saving the planet is gonna cost money but Desalination will be helping us in the long run.
