(European Commission)
The study is being finalised at the moment and it will be published by the end of spring 2018.
In May 2017, the European Commission (DG EMPL) commissioned a study on ‘Mapping Skills Audits in and across the EU’, to carry out research in 16 EU Member States on their current practice in relation to Skills Audits. The objective of the study was to create a better knowledge base about the availability of skills audits to different target groups, the variations in how skills audits are carried out, what they entail, who is involved and which identification and assessment methods are being used. It also aims to collect evidence on the demand and supply of skills audits across the EU and the effectiveness of different types of practices.

Future Youth Information and Counselling Service: Service Quality and Improvement (an Erasmus+ KA2 project)

This project was created due to the lack of evidence-based research in the field of youth information, which blocks the development of the sector. With this in mind, research will be carried out to identify youth information needs, trends, and most relevant topics. This survey will be compared and contrasted with an ERYICA survey which was carried out in 2013, and, perhaps most innovatively, will use future foresight methodology to identify a strategic direction for youth information, something that has never been done before.

In 2017 a survey was conducted
to collect data about youth information needs and services. The aim of the study was to understand the future information needs among the young generation, the current service quality and satisfaction of the users, and identify improvement areas so information services could be designed according to the future demand. Data collection was administered using a questionnaire survey in 20 countries across Europe. Having the survey in so many languages meant that young people could fill it in in many countries, including during a mobility stay abroad, or after returning to their country of residence.
The survey was addressed to both youth information service users as well as non-users to get as broad a picture as possible. Therefore, two different set of questionnaires were used to collect answers from the two different set of population.
Additionally, questions about information literacy were added to the questionnaires to get some insights into the information handling skills of young people today.

Liaisons: a handbook for preventing violent extremism through youth information

Published by the European Youth Information and Counselling Agency (ERYICA), in cooperation with the Council of Europe, and with the support of the Bureau International Jeunesse (Belgium), the manual is currently available in French. It will be available in English in the coming months.

Hardback and digital copies available:
- An analysis of the violent radicalisation process
- The role of Youth Information in the prevention of youth violent extremism
- A tool box: More than 50 activities for youth workers, youth information workers, educators and youth organisations.

Due to their daily work with young people, youth workers and youth organisations are often the first to identify the risks and warning signs that young people may be at risk of violent extremism. The manual 'Liaisons' will contribute to equipping those in contact with a young public with the necessary skills to help young people build up their resistance and critical thinking skills, so as not to become attracted by extremist ideas and groups.

The first part of the manual allows the reader to understand the mechanisms and the reasons behind violent extremism. It aims to define the role of youth information and youth work in the prevention of radicalisation leading to violence.

The tool box is a collection of activities that have been selected due to their relevance and their capacity to have a positive impact on young people. The user will find learning objectives, practical information (target group, material, group size), a detailed description of how to carry out the activity, as well as advice, in each activity. Although the different activities have been selected in a logical order to fit with the different chapters, it is not necessary to follow the activities in the order that they come in the manual. Each activity stands alone and can be carried out independently from the others, and there is no need for preliminary training - Liaisons is ready to use!

MOVE Draft Policy Brief (to be published soon)

MOVE (a Horizon 2020 project) studies youth mobility in Europe via a multi-methods approach, looking at how to improve the conditions of mobility and how to reduce negative impacts. The main research questions are:

How can mobility be good both for the socio-economic and individual development of young people?

What are the factors that foster/hinder such beneficial mobility?

This first policy brief is based on selected results from the secondary macro-data analysis and on first insights from the case study analysis. In regard of the macro data analysis, two major problems are tackled; firstly, the overall insufficient data availability; and secondly, the unequal benefits

of mobility for member states due to regional and country specific differences. The qualitative

analysis sheds light on the great variety in the young people’s scopes and needs in the context of

very different mobility fields. The question of supportive and hindering factors towards an individually satisfying mobility experience are focused on in this policy brief.

The analyses hint to the fact that more differentiated responses of mobility programmes are

needed, in regard of the respective economic situations of member states (with respect to the

quantitative findings of the secondary data analysis) and in regard of different individual needs

and scopes of young people (with respect to the qualitative findings).

Upcoming Publication: "Learning Mobility, Social Inclusion and Non-Formal Education: Access, Processes and Outcomes"

Part of the Youth Knowledge series of the partnership between the European Commission and the Council of Europe in the field of youth, this publication is a follow-up to the first volume on transnational learning mobility published in 2013. This book attempts to address two inter<del>-</del>related issues, specifically in the context of non-formal education. The first is learning mobility in the inclusion agenda: how learning mobility can be used as a tool for inclusion by providing opportunities and assets to the disadvantaged and excluded. Recent evaluative research has clearly demonstrated that learning mobility can be a very powerful tool for inclusion, but if it is not handled with proper consideration of the target group, it may produce the opposite effect to that intended. The second is inclusion in the learning mobility agenda: learning mobility has arguably so far mainly been the preserve of privileged, resourceful young people, and projects have perhaps been designed with such participants in mind. We therefore need to focus on how we involve less advantaged young people in mobility projects, and how we engineer and implement these projects to make participation a realistic option for all.

Mobility and the role of Youth Information survey 2017

(Eurodesk)
More and more research shows that learning mobility has positive effects on personal development,
on employability, on building a sense of EU citizenship and on being tolerant to diversity. Then why is not every one benefiting from a mobility experience?

There are many reasons for not being mobile. This survey aims to provide an insight on young people’s needs, behaviours and expectations when
it comes to mobility-related information. It will help Eurodesk and other information networks in
improving their services while also pointing at policy recommendations to ensure all young people have access to quality youth information. Eurodesk decided to launch this survey in 2017, in the context of the revision of the EU Youth Strategy. Indeed, we believe that youth information should be a pillar of the EU Youth Strategy to ensure inclusiveness and a wider outreach. This survey clearly confirms this need.
