For example, personally, during our term break, we went to the Willing Hearts, an unprofitable organisation that helps the Lonely, Elderly, Needy and Special Needs(LENS) in the society, to help out with the preparation of ingredients and packing of food. We sacrificed our time for this voluntary work, without expecting anything in return.

For example, there is no way someone can pay you back your time. Once time has passed, it is gone. By giving someone your time, for example, helping out your friend who probably needs support when you could have used that time to do something more productive like studying or even to have your own personal time. Like one time when my friend asked me to run an errand for him and I did instead of going home to study.

In my (generous) opinion, generosity is sharing what you have with others and being kind without any hidden agendas such as receiving something in return. Generosity is the most important value in the world because we must always try to help others that require help.
Generosity comes from deep within our hearts, not just doing it because its the new trend which everyone has to do to be the new "cool" person, or being forced to do a generous act.
Generosity doesn't have to come from specific backgrounds, whether you are Asian, American or European, anyone can be generous if they want to, its a matter of choice.
Generous Acts:
Ellen DeGeneres on the Ellen show where she gives free items to the audience/guest very frequently

Oprah

Video homeless people

generosity is being kind and helping others without expecting them to return the favor. it is also about sharing what you have with others.

e.g. there are people who give away free food to homeless people. these people do not ask for anything in return. there is another example where a guy who has a meager amount of money to begin with goes and help everyone and everything he meets to the best of his abilities including a dog. he donates money to a mother and daughter begging for money to let the daughter go to school. he also helps an auntie selling food push her truck across the road. he also buys banana and gives it to the old lady next door. in the end, the daughter that was begging for money was able to go to school and teach her mother what she learned.

When you give people who need something more than you do or help someone in need whenever you can, you are being generous.
