Jonas was worried about asher because he never takes anything seriously.

Jonas went to do volunteer hours with Asher and Fiona at the House of the Old. He went to help them in the bathing room, bathing the old.

Jonas was bathing a women named Larissa. She told him that they celebrated roberto's release. He was instructor of elevens and he was on the planning committee. 

The releases happen in the releasing room. You walk through a door and no one knows anything after that except the committee.

In the morning the family members tell eachother their Dreams. Jonas rarely has dreams.

Jonas had a dream about him and Fiona in the bathing room but there was only one tub and they were alone.

Jonas had his first stirring. Its a dream everyone has at one point. This meant that he was ready  for the pills, the treatment for stirrings.

The pills were for the stirrings to go away but Jonas wanted the feeling back.

The first day they go through the ceremony from naming ceremony to the eight's. Then the second day the nine's to twelve's.

It was the day of the ceremonies.  They got there by riding their bicycles. Jonas's dad was already there for the naming ceremony because the nurturers need to be there to bring the newchildren on stage.

At the naming ceremony there was a couple that got a replacement child named Caleb. They had a child named Caleb before but when he was a four he walked off a bridge and it was a great sadness to the entire community.

Asher said that there was a story of a man who was hoping for the engineer job but he got sanitation laborer instead. So, he jumped into the river and swam to the next community he came to. He was never to be seen again. Jonas did not believe the story

The spouses were chosen by the elders committee.

They went back in the auditorium from the midday break.

Each child was given a number at birth. Jonas's number was nineteen. This meant that he was born earlier so when the naming ceremony came he had already began to walk and talk.

There is a new chief elder every ten years that gives a speech at the beginning of ceremonies.

In the speech they talked about recollection of the time of childhood and the period of preparation, the coming responsibilities of adult life, the profound importance of Assignment and the seriousness of training to come.

The chief elder was about to give asher his job and it was very funny everyone was laughing because they were naming the jobs that were obviously not going to be his. Asher's assignment was the 
Assistant Director of Recreation. 

The punishment for small misbehaviours was one small smack across their hands and for second offence, 3 sharp smacks across bare legs with the discipline wand. 

When it was his turn, Jonas's number was skipped from eighteen to twenty. Everyone was shocked and very confused.

The chief Elder called Jonas up after everyone else had gotten their assignments. He was the last one. Although, he had not been assigned he had been selected. He was the next Receiver of Memory.

A man was watching Jonas and he was sitting with the elders committee. He too had pale eyes.

The receiver of memories was the most important job in their community. He had to train alone and he could not be observed or modified he had to prepare alone for what was to come next. This job was the most honored in their community.

His training includes very hard physical pain. 

The receiver of memory had many qualities(intelligence,  Integrity, courage, wisdom)

The previous receiver also said he had the capacity to see beyond. He is confused at first but than he remembered the apple that had changed colors. 

after the chief elder left the stage Jonas heard whispers of his name that got louder and louder. The communitte was accepting him and his new role. They were chanting like they were chanting for caleb the new child. 

He was still frightful he did not know what was to come.

The other receiver wants jonas to ask questions but Jonas is very uncomfortable because he is breaking rules he couldn't break since he was born. 

The receiver would pass on memories to Jonas. Jonas would receive memories from the whole world.

The receiver is giving Jonas the memory of snow. Jonas could feel the cold and see the flakes falling from the sky.

 Once the receiver gives Jonas a memory he loses it. Every memory he loses he gets lightenned just a little.

There is climate control where someone can change the weather and the environment in their community. Like snow and hills.

He gave Jonas another memory and Jonas could guess what it was without the man telling him. It was the memory of sunshine. Just like before climate control.

The man decided to give Jonas one last memory, the memory of sunburn. Jonas said it hurt a lot. 

The man told Jonas to call him the Giver.

Jonas kept having a dream on the hill. He felt as if he wanted to grab something out in the distance.

Fiona and Jonas rode together to their new jobs and jonas had noticed fiona's hair change colors.

Jonas brought back the memory of the sled himself and he found that the sled looked bizarre. The giver showed him a few books and found out Jonas was beginning to see the color red.

The community took away colour because of choices and colour of skin.

Jonas was now very interested in colors. After the Giver decided to give him the  memory of a rainbow.

Jonas began to learn all the colours and could see them in his everyday life at certain times.

Jonas wants everyone to see colours. he was trying to transmit the colour red to Asher. He feels left out and alone. and he was trying to tell lily that elephants once existed and she didn't believe them.

The Giver gave Jonas a disturbing memory there were many men that had just taken tusks from a motionless elephant and than another elephant came from the woods covered the elephant on the ground with a branch and leaves and they was in grief.  

The receiver who failed years ago all the memories she had gotten were released and everyone had access to them. It was chaos.

Jonas wanted a more painful memory because the chief Elder said he would suffer but he hadn't suffered yet so he was curious and wanted to take pain off the Giver.

• The memory the Giver had given Jonas was Jonas sliding on ice, although this ride was not enjoyable because he fell off broke a bone, scraped his face. He went home limping.

The giver also said that many year sago the council asked him if they should expand the population but the Giver said no because the first thing that came up was hunger. He was scared that they would overpopulate. So the receiver's job is to advise the elders and give them advice. 
• instead of keeping the burden of the memories the committee wanted to give that to the receivers. But Jonas and the Giver want to change that. But Jonas knew that nothing would be changed.
• Gabriel has been passing many tests but he still might be released. 
• If identical twins are born the smaller of the two get released. 
• Jonas wanted Gabriel to sleep in his room tonight, he woke up a few times but Jonas handled it.  Gabriel was having trouble sleeping so he was patting his back and Jonas accidently gave gabriel the memory of a lake. When gabe woke up again during the night jonas decided to give him the full memory and he decided not to tell the Giver. This shows that they are a lot alike

 There was an unexpected holiday and everyone was surprised. So Jonas did not go to school or work and he went to the biking path to look for Asher.

It had been four weeks since Jonas took the pills and the stirrings had returned. and because he didn't take the pills he could keep the colours in his vision. 

and now Jonas was feeling happier than ever. he could experience and especially understand true and deep feelings.

When Jonas found Asher he was playing a game that they always used to play(good guys and bad guys) but Jonas had never realised that it was a game of war. He walked into the field after a while and was hit but didn't fall to the ground like the other kids did instead he saw the boy begging for water. He was having trouble to breath and was trying not to cry. Then the other children left.

Asher got mad because Jonas ruined their game and he got even more mad when Jonas said not to play it anymore because it was a cruel game.

When Jonas got home he felt better to be with his family

His mom said lilly would be a good story teller.

Jonas asked the Giver about release. when the Giver is done Jonas's training he will apply for release. But jonas isn't looking forward to that. 

Jonas asked the giver to tell him the story of the previous receiver. He said that her name was Rosemary. The Giver loved her as he loved Jonas. But when the giver gave her her first bad memory of loneliness and loss after that she had sadness in her eyes and everytime the giver would finish with a happy memory the laughter was gone it wasn't like it used to be. That night she applied for release and it wasn't against the rules back than so the chief had to give it to her. The community went to see the Giver for help.

If Jonas had gotten released or fell into the river everyone would be in grief fro Jonas and everyone would hate the awful memories that JOnas had gotten. It would be chaos all over again. Jonas gave the Giver a thought that if Jonas's memories were released the Giver could help everyone like he helps Jonas when he gives him a bad memory.

His father was releasing the twin today. The giver reminded Jonas that he could ask anyone anything so he said they could go to the hall of closed records to see the recording of the release. 

The Giver turned on the speaker on the wall and they got to watch the release. One was slightly lighter than the other so they prepared him for release(gave him his shots, dressed him, etc).

But instead of releasing him the needle and injection made the little one die and Jonas was shocked as his father tidied up the room.

He put the baby in a carton and his father seemed to put him in some kind of chute(it looked like the ones Jonas had at school to put trash in)

The Giver got to see rosemary's release too and she injected the needle herself.

Jonas did not want to go home after what his father did so the Giver let him stay the night.

Every release is the same

The giver thinks everything should change so after they ate they were going to make a plan. Jonas would leave the community and never come back so that the community would have to live with the burden of the memories Jonas had. The Giver couldn't go because he had to help the community with the bad memories but the Giver and Jonas just wanted the community to experience real feelings. 

The Giver did not have seeing beyond when he was a twelve he had hearing beyond he could hear music. and he wanted to give jonas some before he left but jonas wanted the giver to keep the memories for himself. 

Their plan was to find elsewhere so before the ceremonies Jonas would sneak out in the middle of the night and the Giver would give every memory of courage and bravery to Jonas and they would leave by ordering a car and drive and go to the nearest community.

 Once Jonas was gone the Giver would go to the ceremony and begin the ceremony of loss for Jonas and they would chant his name as they did for Caleb.

The Giver wanted to go with Jonas because he loved him but he had to stay for the community and finish his work so he could be with his daughter. He said her name was rosemary.

• He made his way out during the night to get to the river. He wasn't frightful or regretful for leaving. But he would miss the giver deeply he said goodbye hoping he would hear Jonas with his capacity of hearing beyond.
• Jonas's father has to release Gabriel. He would be released this morning when Jonas would escape. So he had taken gabe.
• Jonas peddled for many hours passing all the communities until it was day. It was too dangerous to bike in the day because he could be seen so he hid himself in the bushes with gabe and slept through the day. 
• It had been many days since they left and jonas was exhausted and running out of food. 
• There were search planes looking for Jonas so he became more vigilant and was always looking for hiding spots
• The planes came less and less as Jonas was moving away from the committee because it seemed that the community had no hope.

the landscape was changing the roads were getting bumpier and older. There were also more trees and deeper darker and more mysterious forests. 

Jonas crashed into a rock fell off his bike twisted his ankle but gabe was fine.

They stopped for water and saw their first waterfall and for the first time, wild life. Gabe called out a plane but it was a bird. He saw all kinds of animals that he remembered from the memories. Than he saw a reddish brown creature but Jonas did not know his name. They were staring at eachother but the animal turned away into the forest.

They were starving, Jonas was now realising he had made a mistake to leave the community. But if he hadn't left he would be hungry for feelings, colour and love and there wouldn't have been a life for gabe so he is now happy with his choice.

he was starting to encounter hills and the weather was changing. Jonas became worried that he could not save gabe.

• Jonas could feel that elsewhere ws not far away. Then it started to snow. 
• He came across a hill and Jonas had to go up it but he knew the ride would be too hard so he left the bike behind.
• Jonas was becoming really weak trying to give Gabe every memory of warmth he had.
• He made it to the top of the hill and was freezing and tired but also happy. JOnas remembered this place and knew that they were close to warmth. 
• a sled was waiting for tmem at the top of the hill so they rode down.
• Jonas felt himself loosing consiousness but holding on to habe to keep him safe
• Elsewhere held their future and past
• There was a village with lights and families were celebrating love. 
• The villagers were waiting for him and jonas and jonas heard music for the first time they heard them sing
• 
  He thought he had heard music from where he had come but he said it was only an echo.
