Climate Action - Being part of the Philippine map, it is no question that we experience natural disasters often, especially typhoons. That plus the fact that scientists are already warning us about Climate Change being irreversible, it won’t take long for it to bear into fruition and hurt us in the future. The importance of addressing this issue is for the people and the community in North Cotabato to have a better chance of lessening their collateral damage as well as the disasters that are just waiting to happen. If we do not act now, it might even be too late to salvage what we have left.

Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure - Even though North Cotabato thrives in the economical aspect, resilient infrastructures to take refuge in should storms arrive should be the focused on, as well as further enhancements and fortifications. These walls use steel shear walls, which absorb stress and flex but do not completely bow under pressure, to reduce lateral force in buildings. With North Cotabato being prone to Earthquakes and other Natural disasters, it would be beneficial for their community to build infrastructures with Steel Plate Shear Walls as to prevent damages as much as possible.

Light Detection and Ranging (LIDAR):

Topographic and bathymetric are two different types of lidar. While bathymetric lidar also measures elevations of the seafloor and riverbeds using water-penetrating green light, topographic lidar typically maps the land using a near-infrared laser. Scientists and mapping professionals may analyze both natural and artificial surroundings with accuracy, precision, and flexibility thanks to lidar equipment. This is already used in the Philippines and with this technology, it would help with locating landslides as well as its history. The downside of using Lidar, is that it’s an expensive investment that not all governments can afford.

Reference: https://oceanservice.noaa.gov/facts/lidar.html
