From the reading: "Spoken pressure, which is when someone pressures you with words, can be difficult to resist" (6). To refuse spoken pressure you must say no to the pressure, stay alcohol and drug free, stand up for what's right, or walk away.
"Negotiation is a method by which people settle differences. It is a process by which compromise or agreement is reached while avoiding argument and dispute" (7). It's possible to aim for a common ground in most situations.
"During this stage, individuals or members of each side put forward the case as they see it, i.e. their understanding of the situation" (8). When negotiating, you must collaborate and work together to understand each side of the case.

Situation in which someone you know personally refused, negotiated or collaborated in order to reduce their health risks:

I know someone who went to their first high school party, and regretted it instantly. There was drugs and alcohol being passed around the whole party. My friend never wanted to do anything illegal, she just heard they were having a good time. When someone at the party offered her a drink she first refused it by saying no and then collaborated with her other friend. They discussed it would probably be a good idea to just walk away from the party, after offering pop as an option instead. It was challenging for them to do because it's difficult to not fall under peer pressure. They did the right thing by refusing something that might raise their health risks.
