The earthquake that caused the tsunami was recorded to be the strongest ever at a 9.5 magnitude. 
 The earthquake involved a plate shift  cause a large displacement of water off the coast of southern of southern Chile at 3:11 p.m. the traveling speeds of the waves were at about 400 miles per hour. 
The waves caused Hawaii to pay about $1 million in damages however the waves were not that deadly ( 61 casualties) 
The waves were estimated to be 35 feet high and so strong that they  swept up a 2 ton tractor and pushed back a 20 ton wall 500 feet. 
FUN FACT-

The costs in Hawaii was estimated to be $1 million. For example 35 foot waves swept up 2 ton tractor and pushed back a 200 ton stone wall 500  feet. there were 61 casualties in Hawaii and 180 in Japan. The waves left 50,000 people homeless and the damages in costs were about $400 million. The waves were 35 feet and damaged 500 homes and business.

Not only a hydrosphere but a geosphere as well because the geosphere has to do with the earth and the earthquake is what started the tsunami.  The earthquake was caused by a displacement in the the plates which soon started the tsunami. The type of plate boundary that caused the tsunami was the collision. and the displacement caused the waves to get bigger and bigger from its original size
