We learned how to finish off the neckline and armhole on a front bodice using bias binding, how to sew a pin hem and a french seam (which is a self-concealed seam, commonly used on lightweight fabrics) 

I found it very tricky at first as it is really difficult to sew in a straight line as the fabric was very slippery. I sewed my first french seam and I was not happy with the result, so I had another go which turned out a lot better!!

Instead of having to manually fold and iron the bias binding, this device does the folding for you. You simply insert the strip of fabric and pull it through, then give it a quick press to hold its shape.

I found it extremely helpful to learn about the different types of lightweight fabrics such as silk, organza, chiffon, georgette etc. and how to manufacture them as this is not part of our course structure or projects. 
In my first year of studies I have made a shirt from organza, which was the first time I had worked with a fabric of that kind. As we were in lockdown I had to use my domestic sewing machine and even though ten tutors have been very helpful over zoom, it wasn't the same as being able to learn how to work with the fabric in person.

He has got his very own, distinct style and I was very curious to see all the original sets and costumes up close.

I really enjoy his sense of colour and detail which is something that I can implement on my own work. 
I also enjoyed the whole experience and curation of the exhibition as it gave you the feeling that you were emerging into this very unique world. 
 
Apart from the Fashion, one of my favourite parts of the exhibition was the scribble wall. I particularly enjoyed the prints and patterns of the carpets, wallpaper and tapestry of the interior of the house. I loved the floral prints and the contrast between the really colourful prints and the more muted ones. 
I normally don't use a lot of prints and patterns in my work but it did inspire me to try and incorporate it more from now on.
