The focus of this reflection session was the concept of Usrah and the importance of Adab (etiquettes) in two key areas: reciting the Quran and engaging in classroom learning.

First, Usrah was defined as a family unit characterized by a supportive environment of sharing and mutual acceptance, where differences are embraced.

The primary discussion centered on the etiquettes for reciting the Quran. These essential manners, or adab, include:

Performing ablution (wudhu).

Ensuring the recitation takes place in a clean location.

Covering the aurah (parts of the body required to be covered in Islam).

Facing the qibla (the direction of the Kaaba in Mecca).

Secondly, the session addressed adab related to classroom learning. Proper conduct in this setting involves being polite, dressing appropriately in clothes that cover the aurah, and engaging in the learning process with a proper intention.

The six core beliefs—known as the Pillars of Iman—serve as the intellectual and spiritual bedrock of Islam. They assert the oneness of Allah; His connection to creation through Angels and Divine Books; the history of His communication through Messengers; and the guaranteed reality of both the Last Day of Judgment and the comprehensive reach of Divine Decree. Accepting these six interconnected pillars is essential, defining the complete and unwavering faith required of a Muslim.

The core subject of this session was the Five Pillars of Islam—the fundamental actions required of every Muslim.

At the heart of the pillars is the Shahadah, the foundational testimony that expresses complete belief in Allah as the one God and Muhammad (SAW) as His Prophet.

The other four pillars are commanded acts of worship:

Salah (Prayer): Obligatory prayers performed five times a day, a directive established after the Isra' and Mi'raj.

Zakat (Charity): A mandatory payment from the rich to the needy, ensuring economic balance.

Fasting (Sawm): A necessary observance for all able Muslims during Ramadan.

Hajj (Pilgrimage): The required journey to Mecca, conditional upon one's affordability.

Based on the document provided, here is a simplified breakdown of the Ḥikmah (wisdom) behind the four major acts of worship (Ibadah) mentioned.

1. Ṣalah (Daily Prayer)

The primary purpose of prayer is to build a direct connection with the Creator while acting as a moral compass for your daily life.

Purpose: It acts as a shield against immorality and wrongdoing.

Key Benefit: It serves as the greatest form of remembrance of Allah.

2. Ṣawm (Fasting)

Fasting is not just about abstaining from food; it is a spiritual exercise designed to change your internal character.

Purpose: It was prescribed to those before us and to us today so that we may become righteous.

Key Benefit: It develops Taqwa (God-consciousness or righteousness).

3. Zakāh (Charity)

Giving a portion of your wealth is a means of spiritual and financial growth rather than a loss.

Purpose: It purifies the soul and the wealth of the person giving it.

Key Benefit: It causes an "increase" in blessings and provides a sense of reassurance and peace for the heart.

4. Ḥajj (Pilgrimage)

The pilgrimage is a journey of ultimate self-discipline and devotion.

Purpose: It requires the person to abandon sexual relations, disobedience, and arguing.

Key Benefit: It teaches that the "best provision" for any journey—and for life—is the fear and awareness of Allah.

1. What is Hikmah?

Definition: It is the ability to understand the true nature of things and act correctly based on that understanding.

Meaning: It combines intellect, knowledge, and a healthy fear of God.

Practicality: It is essentially a blend of knowledge and deed.

The Goal: To help you live your life in deep accordance with religious teachings.

2. How to Acquire Ḥikmah

Wisdom is acquired through ʿIbādah (worship). It is not just about physical movement, but about cultivating inner qualities like humility and sincerity.

To reach Ḥikmah, you need three main components:

A. Niyyah (The Right Intention)

Your intention must be solely for the sake of Allah to be accepted.

It helps distinguish whether you are doing something for God or for the approval of others.

Key traits of good Niyyah: Sincerity, purity, clarity, focus, and consistency.

B. Amal (The Right Action)

Amal refers to performing good deeds like prayer, charity, and kindness.

Good deeds should have a positive impact on the wider community.

Action is only effective when performed consistently and with the right intention.

C. Ehsan (The Right Way / Excellence)

The Standard: Worshipping Allah as if you can see Him; knowing that even if you cannot see Him, He sees you.

The Virtues: Internalizing honesty, compassion, and patience as part of your character.

The Process: It involves awareness, understanding, practice, and reflection

5 Core Virtues Developed Through Prayer

Engaging in prayer with true focus helps build five specific Islamic character traits:

1. Al-Taʿah (Submission & Loyalty)

Trains a person in sincere obedience and acceptance of Allah’s commands.

Recognizes that the closest a servant is to their Lord is during sujūd (prostration).

2. Al-Jihad (Striving in Allah's Path)

Focuses on the inner struggle (jihād al-nafs) to fight laziness and distractions.

Building consistency in prayer develops the spiritual strength to stay on the right path.

3. Muḥāsabah (Self-Reflection)

Acts as a daily self-check to evaluate your actions and intentions.

Increases awareness of one's shortcomings and the need to prepare for the future.

4. ʿIffah (Modesty & Self-Restraint)

True Ṣalāh acts as a shield that restrains a person from shameful or unjust deeds in daily life.

Builds moral integrity that lasts even after the prayer is over.

5. Tawaddu' (Humility)

Removes pride and arrogance by forcing the believer to recognize their dependence on Allah.

The act of bowing and prostrating is the ultimate symbol of being a humble servant.
