The word that our group chose that described Harriett Tubman the best is being determined. There were many challenges that she had to face in order to get herself and slaves to freedom. She stayed determined throughout every difficulty along her journey. In the text it states, "She had never been in Canada. The route beyond
Philadelphia was strange to her. But she could not let the
runaways who accompanied her know this." Tubman had never been on the route beyond Philadelphia which made her a little uneasy. She didn't want the slaves that she was leading to realize that she was unsure. She wanted herself and the slaves to stay determined to get to Canada to reach freedom. Tubman had a conviction of reaching freedom, and she was so determined to fulfill this goal, that she continued to go back to the plantations twice a year to free more group of slaves. Tubman stayed determined throughout her journey to freedom.

The word selfless best describes Harriet Tubman's character. In the text it says, " She made two trips a year into
slave territory, one in the fall and another in the spring. She
now had a definite crystallized purpose, and in carrying it
out, her life fell into a pattern which remained unchanged for
the next six years." Harriet risked her life for others to be free like her. This is a selfless move because she continues to put her self at risk to help others become free like her.

The word that our group chose to describe Tubman's characteristics is selfless. In the text it states, "She made two trips a year into slave territory, one in the fall and another in the spring...the bone-biting cold, the snow-covered forests--- and freedom." Tubman selflessly led slaves to freedom and instead of keeping it for herself, went back to help others.

The word that best describes Harriet Tubman is courageous. In the text it says, "If they were caught, the eleven runaways would be whipped and sold South, but she-- she would probably be hanged." Even though she knew the consequences of her actions, she stayed true to her convictions and still tried to rescue the slaves. This shows her courageousness because she is willing to stick to her beliefs and risk having her life end for them.

The word that best describes Harriet Tubman is courageous. She knew the consequences of sneaking slaves off to freedom yet she continuously made trips back. On page 153 it states, "If they were caught, the eleven runaways would be whipped and sold South, but she- she would probably be hanged." Tubman knew that if she was caught, her and the other slaves would be either killed or tortured because they were trying to escape. However, she always went back for more people driven by her conviction of equality.

The word that best describes Harriet is selfless. Harriet escaped the plantations on her own to a place where she could be free and safe. Although Harriet was safe she still went back to the plantation and helped other slaves escape. She knew the risk she faced with getting caught helping slaves escape and yet she was so selfless that she decided to help other slaves experience freedom. "She was determined that more and more slaves should know what freedom was like." Page 153. Harriet knew that freedom was great and she wanted other slaves to experience freedom. Harriet didn't want to be the only slave to experience freedom.
