For the Green Drapers Eco-friendly attire contest, I have designed a summer dress of a skirt and a top. For this, I have used cotton khadi material because it is a natural fabric and lets your skin breathe. 

I also chose to colour my dress pink with a natural dye of beetroot instead of using chemical dyes. I have used the Indian traditional tie and dye method to make this dress. 

Since I am designing a summer dress, I like the idea of decorating my outfit with wild weeds and berries which are biodegradable in place of any metal or plastic accessories. I have also designed a root tiara with leaves and flowers to complete the look.

All the materials in this dress are natural and organic. It is a very eco-friendly dress.

 

 

 

 

 

We can take action on things, but the real blow actually comes when we use sustainability on things that are inevitable and daily. Like clothes and electricity......and the explosion of eco-friendliness comes when we combine these unavoidable everyday things. So, what are sustainable ways we can follow in clothes and electricity?  

For clothes, we need to use biodegradable fibres. For electricity we generally use solar panels.  

 

So, I have designed a set of clothes (shoes and cap included) that are made entirely of biodegradable fibres and have detachable solar panels on them. The fabric of the shirt and shorts is Organic Bamboo Fibre, the cap and shoes are made of hemp. Both these fibres are decomposable. These have longer life and hence have good durability. As mentioned before, these have removable solar panels, which can power things in or after usage. This set of clothes, I call, Trencher Green’s. 

All you have to do is walk around in the sun, let the solar panels do their magic, and charge, uh well, whatever you want to power! After the clothes are worn out, they can return to the soil or be recycled.   

An example of usage:  

Solar enabled shoulder cuffs and shoes can be used for mobile charging either the same time or even later.  

The cap can be used as torch light /study lamp in the nights. 

This dress will be of much use for people working in the field like construction, delivery boys, farmers, school students etc.  

This dress is not only sustainable with eco-friendly material but also self –sufficient for basic needs of light and acts as mobile charging station, needless to say it reduces our electricity bill 😊.
