It is the day of the Ceremony of Twelve. I am number 5. The Chief Elder has just called my number. She says my job is a laborer, hands me a folder, then thanks me for my childhood.

I am home in my dwelling. I have just opened the folder I received during the Ceremony of Twelve. I think back to the Ceremony. Number 19, whos name is Jonas, became the new Receiver of Memory. When they were calling numbers, they skipped him, but at the end they called him up. I start to read my folder. It says i will have brief training, and then I will work hard for the rest of my life.

The Giver has finally transmitted me all of his memories. We have righted the Community. There is no longer sameness, and Jonas has returned
