SORANY MENDOZA

In my opinion, past climate actions should influence our present decisions. For decades, we were consuming natural resources unsustainably, polluting the environment, and emitting greenhouse gases without considering the long-term consequences. We were ignoring scientists' warnings and their impacts were already being felt in vulnerable communities. Now, we are facing the results of those past decisions and we must learn from our mistakes.

The actions taken in the past regarding climate change were having a profound and direct impact on our present, and it was crucial to recognize how they were affecting our daily lives.

In summary, our past actions were serving as a mirror reflecting the decisions we needed to make today. The fight against climate change was a collective effort, and by understanding how our historical decisions were influencing the present, we could work together toward a more sustainable and just future for all. Hope was lying in the fact that each one of us could be part of the solution, learning from the past to build a better future.

Eliana Lopez

Yes, past climate actions should have been influencing current decisions regarding climate change. Historically, countries were contributing disproportionately to greenhouse gas emissions, and these past actions were shaping the global environmental crisis we face today. By reflecting on what has been working or failing in past policies, we can better understand the necessary steps to mitigate and adapt to climate change now. In addition, past efforts were showing that international cooperation is crucial, but many commitments were not being met, which highlighted the need for stronger, more binding agreements moving forward. Therefore, acknowledging the lessons from past actions should be shaping the decisions we make today to ensure a more effective and equitable response.

Yes, because over time climate change was evident, producing devastating effects, since rising sea levels caused prolonged and torrential rains that had caused floods, thus generating extreme droughts, lack of water, food shortages, loss of coverage of the glaciers, and we were experiencing an increase in vector-borne diseases, among others.

Fossil fuels (coal, oil and gas) are the ones that contribute the most to global climate change, since they were the most used and it was found that these were the ones that represented more than 75% of global greenhouse gas emissions and almost 90% of all carbon dioxide emissions.

In the poles, glaciers were melting at an alarming rate. Meanwhile, many species were losing their natural habitats due to global warming. Wildfires were spreading more frequently in dry regions. The oceans were absorbing carbon dioxide, becoming more acidic. Indigenous communities were facing challenges adapting to changes in their environment. Farmers were struggling with prolonged droughts that were reducing their crops. In cities, air quality was worsening due to increased emissions. At the same time, many people were coming together to take climate action and raise awareness about this global issue.
