Fantasy vs. Reality

"Seeing as how Welch was our new home, Brian and I figured we'd make the best of it. Dad had shown us where we were going to put the foundation of the Glass Castle." Jeannette and Brian began digging the hole and after about a month they dug the hole deep enough for them to hide in. They were so proud but one day Rex told them to dump their trash in the hole, and they did. Eventually reality got to Jeannette and she knew that the Glass Castle wasn't going to happen. I chose this quote because Rex knew deep down that this was a fantasy of his, I think that the Glass Castle sort of gave him hope to keep going with life even though it was all fake.

"A year after Dad died, I left Eric. He was a good man, but not the right one for me. And Park Avenue was not where I belonged." Although Jeannette knew that Eric wouldn't be like her dad, she knew that it wasn't right of her to be with Eric. Jeannette began to distant herself from everything and found herself never at home. But, she accepted the fact that it was all too much for her and she had to move on. She ended up moving to the West SIde.
This picture shows the inside of an apartment on Park Avenue.

Unconditional Love

"Despite all the hell--raising and destruction and chaos he had created in our lives, I could not imagine what my life would be like--without him in it. As awful as he could be, I always knew he loved me in a way no one else ever had." In this quote Jeanette is talking about her father Rex. Jeannette was always Rex's biggest supporter and regardless of what they went through, she always loved him, and always will love him. I chose this picture because two weeks after their conversation Rex got a heart attack and die

Forgiveness

"It had been John's idea to invite her and Lori and Brian to the house for Thanksgiving, the first Walls family get-together since dad's funeral." In this last part, no one forgave another person straight forward but for the last five years, everyone had their own lives going for themselves. I think they were finally getting closure so that they could move on with their lives at peace. I chose this picture because the day they got together was on thanksgiving and they made a toast to Rex. Also because Brian said, " You know, it's really not that hard to put food on the table if that's what you decide to do."

"I'm a grown woman now, why can't I do what I want to do?' 'Teaching is rewarding and fun' Lori said. 'You'll grow to like it." Lori is the oldest of four and acts more of an adult than her parents. When Lori says anything, her answers always seem smart. I picked this picture because Lori helped her mom to be a good teacher at Welch.
