Pablo Sada. We must always help students to start from the level they are at and help them to push hard to accomplish their goals and it is very important the fact of knowing why they are doing it because knowing why they are doing it even if they are still young it is important because it is necessary to have the end in mind.Another important point is to always have the desire to do things and the desire to want to excel in life by fulfilling all their personal goals, and because of that always have to be extraordinary and leave their comfort zone in order to meet their highest expectations and we have to support students and make them understand that goals are not always met the first time and they have to keep in mind that some goals are going to be short and some others long and you have to have patience to achieve them and if they are not achieved they have to be persistence and perseverance until they achieve what they want.

It is a creative, meaningful, contextual activity and each student can't help to be engaged. At the end of the story, after multiple retellings, the students should be able to understand, retell, read, rewrite, and answer questions about the story in Spanish. I like to incorporate global music, images, scents of various spices, etc. to go along with the region of the world we are learning about. I think hands-on activities are so important as well, and exposure to anything beyond their world and knowledge base where culture is involved is so important for engagement.

Every student who joins my class (and their parent's) know that I will challenge their kiddos to find their confidence and to feel safe and excited to make mistakes in our classroom and to believe that those mistakes will help them grow to reach their goals. I do this by building trust with my students and always reminding them that I notice their efforts and am so proud of them every step of the way. It is our job as teachers to guide our students down that path to success.

After reading chapters 4-11, I am inspired to incorporate more art into lessons across all disciplines. Art can be used for reading comprehension for sketch notes, art can transform the classroom for a unit on Native Americans, art can be used in science in a unit on classifications of animals and habitats. Because I teach at a Title 1 school many of my students do not have schema because they have not been exposed to activities like going to the zoo, or the museum of science. It is important to give my students the background knowledge that is necessary not only for science or history, but for reading comprehension and writing personal narratives.

Just listening to them shows that they have someone who cares beyond the classroom. The parts of themselves they show help me to incorporate aspects of their lives into lessons to build engagement and buy in. This can be simply playing the music they like as they come in during passing period, or having certain warm-up questions that reflect currents issues, "Would you rather have Team England or Team Japan win the World Cup?" I have their attention and maybe this relates to my ELA lesson, for example this could introduce the element of conflict in literature. I love to build in small pieces like this to have fun and show them that I am listening even when I have 10,000 papers to grade!

Even though I am not a great singer that will not stop me from embracing the power of music in my classroom.

My go to is to provide opportunities for my students to pull in their own interests and make personal connections to the why, about what we are learning. I teach secondary history and I love to pull in a variety of ways for students to interact with the content. I also like to share with them pictures of historical sites that I have visited, bring in artifacts and provide opportunities for them to go on interactive digital field trips when possible to expand beyond the walls of the classroom. Also, my hope is that they will connect to how what we are learning about in History is still relevant to their lives and their world today. We do a lot of alternative history as well, for example: what if the colonists had not won the Revolutionary war? My hope is that this connects with them that History was not just cut and dry and written in stone. That we have the privilege of looking at historical events knowing the outcomes, but how did the experiences of those living through these times shape their choices, decisions and perspectives?

Finally, music is also a fun go to for my class. I encourage the students to use music to learn concepts, whether that be writing their own songs and raps or listening to music from and about the time period of study. I also use music for transitions and to connect to concepts we cover in class.

Y.M.

As a teacher of tiny humans I feel like the first, most important thing is to create a safe loving classroom environment. I do this everyday by greeting them at the door and telling them (by name) good morning. This also helps me get a good feel of how they are feeling. This often brings a smile to ALL of their faces and starts the day off on a positive for ALL students. Then at the start of each school year I teach the whole class multiple techniques to self calm and/or go the cool down area. This is reviewed weekly throughout the year as well. At the start of the school year we also discuss how we are a "school family" and ways to be kind and helpful. This skill is important so they feel apart of something and excited to be in school. I also play calming relaxing music, allow multiple "wiggle and learn" opportunities and brain breaks throughout the whole day to allow them to reset and take a second to do a self check. Then I end each day with a positive (high five, hug, etc) and I remind them all that tomorrow is a new day :). I feel by giving them the tools they need to help them regulate and understand their emotions I am not only allowing them to be successful academically but I am also allowing them to use these tools for the rest of their lives.

As a specials teacher I feel that I have an amazing opportunity as I see every student on our campus, creating those bonds from the moment that they walk into the door is what it is all about. My students know that we are all in this together and I will do whatever I can to make sure they know they are loved and cared for like my own personal kids. By creating experiences, teamwork and the element of surprise, I feel like my kids know that my room is a safe place (or that is my goal each day) to explore, learn, ask questions and make mistakes. Making those mistakes is how we grow, it creates reason and wonder in the mind of a child. My go to is just being present with them; listening, laughing, learning and sometimes even crying as we share things in our life.

I teach high school math and practice is crucial. I like to turn practice into games and activities through matching puzzles, card sorts or team competitions. My desks are arranged in groups of twos or threes so it is very easy to quickly do an activity to get students thinking and talking so they can practice and I can check for understanding. I also like to incorporate games on review days to get students up out of their seats and encourage teamwork. Many of these games require little prep work ahead of time and use existing reviews or worksheets but because it involves competition, students enjoy these and are engaged. It is also easy for me to see who is understanding or needs help.

One of my "go-to" things are puzzles, guessing games, and brain dumps. This helps boost participation, collaboration, and confidence. Some students don't realize they know more than they think they know. The bits and pieces they put together as a class is fun, then watching students that struggle have a-ha! moments is fun. Then you give them a similar problem to work solo or with their table and they generally become eager to take similar steps to solve.

My GOTO is task cards. I use them in a variety of ways. Gallery Walk, Competition, Stations, etc. I teach a foreign language and always have some that are wrong sentence structure and have students explain the what and why. The deck of cards will go from easy to challenging, depending on what the learning target is. Sometimes just straight vocab, to different verb conjugations and their sometimes weirdness! The students always enjoy an activity that will get them up and out of their seats!
