We were asked to create a music video, whilst documenting the steps and the process along the way, in order to prove our understanding and knowledge of the task at hand.

We came up with the idea because it features two main characters and since there were only the two of us in the group, it makes it simpler. Also the plot with the two characters suit well for the prison theme of the music video. Also the person I was working is loves with those two characters and I eventually agreed to it. Because I knew it would be an enjoyable and a unique experience to do.

The storyboard was constructed into two sections, the first one was the general plot of the music video, which featured step by step a summary of what it was going to contain. The second one meanwhile, went more in depth with what shots would be used and why. This gave us a greater understanding of what needed to complete to achieve our goal.

We then decided to go over all the potential risks that we needed to be aware of, we then filled out worksheets together. Then we went more in depth on our powerpoint where we talked about solutions to potential problems.

The general idea was kept the same, but certain parts had to be altered because it was unrealistic and difficult to film. We decided to add chase sequences that wasn't in the original plan and that actually turned out to be a good decision to make.

During the editing process, I used a fade in at the start as a way to introduce the video. There was fade in and outs that looked liked flashes when the line "watch it" was featured. This was used in order to make it appear more dramatic.

There was some colour changes in this music video. This is when the tone was more of a greyish colour when the murders happened. The greyness is meant to symbolise that something really bad is about to happen and the darkness of such an evil act. The red and green tones are visible throughout because they are closely associated with the two characters.
There indeed were some speed changes, one of the most memorable ones was when I went to punch Emily and kill her. This was shown in slow motion with a slower speed. The purpose of this was to make it appear more dramatic. This makes the scene more tense because it then dips to black, implying something terrible has occurred.

There were two people in the group and we both cooperated and did equal amounts of work each. What went well was the fact that our ideas suited each others which made the process much easier to do. Another thing was that we both contributed and helped each other out when the other person was struggling, which shows very good team work and communication skills being displayed.

In the group, one of the weaknesses was as mentioned previously some of the ideas were unrealistic which led to changes being made (the mugshots, the props and the storyline being changed to a chase sequence at some points). However this led us to be fully aware and understand how that realism is important and we will take this into consideration so next time that problem is easily avoided. Another thing that may have been an issue was how one was more interested in the story than the other, which may make it difficult to be just as motivated and the other person to not get too carried away. However this weakness proved to be extremely slight since we managed to complete everything with no issues.

My own personal strength was how I quickly got used to the editing software Adobe Premier Pro which led to my editing skills increasing significantly, this was definitely the most enjoyable part of the process for me. Another strength was how I improved with working with other people rather than alone, even though I do prefer my own independence, this did help my team working and confidence skills, which is very important for industries such as media.

My own personal weakness was how my anxieties, since they would act up in filming and how I would be too shy to voice my opinions at first, but this proved to be a non issue. Because I successfully managed to deal with it and manage it while the music video progressed. These weaknesses were soon improved and the music video was indeed successful.

The music video did manage to grab some positive attention. The girl I was working with frequently said "This is good" or "This will be great", which made me feel better doing and I felt much more encouraged to finished the work. Since it shows that other people did believe that the work being done was actually something to be worth proud of.

Cheekz Interview

We were asked to edit an interview with Cheekz and show different camera angles as well as edit a live performance where we had to add a photograph to a green screened background.

There was a multi camera set up used. The first camera managed to capture a long/wide shot of both the interviewer and Cheekz. The second one featured a close up of the interviewer and the third one was the same but with Cheek instead.

The techniques used to edit the interview meant that I had to follow the 180 degree rule. This had to have been used to show the audience that the characters were communicating with each other by the angle they were facing. If I had flipped the shots round in the editing software then it would have been very confusing for the audience to see what's going on.
For the live performance however, I chose to use a background of a lit up stage to create the effect that she was indeed performing live. The process of using the green screen feature was this. You had to go into effects and select Ultra Key. You then drag this onto your footage, in the effect controls select the colour that you're trying to remove, which would change your background to black. Next include the photograph you want to use and stretch it out to the duration that you want it to be on top of the footage. Finally, the black background will then change to the photograph in the background. This means you have completed your green screen effect.

The types of editing decisions I made, were that I decided to show the close ups of their faces while talking and including the long shot of them when they were both communicating. This was to shift the focus onto the person in question who was talking. I realised how important it was to make sure the interview flowed properly and the cuts made were as subtle as possible. Which was my main priority while editing the interview itself.

What worked well was how I managed to choose the appropriate shots for the interview by combining all three camera angles together. This was done without confusing the audience and having the correct shots at the appropriate times. Such as when Cheekz was answering a question the camera was normally focused on her. The editing was also done so there was no change in the audio so that was still intact.

What was difficult was when I has to make sure that the editing flowed properly without accidentally cutting small parts out when I was editing the shots together, since that would have disrupted the interview. But I was able to cut at the correct times so I was able to overcome this difficulty.
