Name: Mary Liliana Rojas Course: Qualitative and Quantitative ResearchTutor: Helga Valeska LeonDate: 01 nov. 2018Theoretical PerspectiveThe theory that I will use is social learning. It was developed by Albert Bandura and it was used to study that there are types of learning where direct reinforcement is not the main teaching mechanism, but that the social element can lead to the development of new learning among individuals. His theory indicates that people can learn new things and develop new behaviors by observing other individuals. As applied to my topic, this theory holds that I would expect my independent variable analyze the language learning strategies most frequently used by academically successful students in higher education to influence or explain the dependent variable to show some language learning strategies, and the importance of social element and family complements that lead students to reach academic success. If the use of social learning will be applied in learning process, it will notice how learning can be, by observation.

These models provide examples of behavior to observe and imitate, e.g., masculine and feminine, pro and anti-social, etc.

Children pay attention to some of these people (models) and encode their behavior. At a later time they may imitate (i.e., copy). This theory proposed by Bandura leads to think that in the learning of a second language the imitation of a perfect model would guarantee a more effective learning.
Although this theory is very similar to that of VIgotsky the following differences can be identified: Bandura, to my way of understanding his theory, mentions that we can learn by forming cognitive representations of events that surround us and those we perceive in us same.
Unlike the aforementioned, Lev Vigotski, introduces the "Near Development Zone" concept which is the distance between the actual level of development, determined by the capacity of an individual independently solve a problem or task and the level of potential development, through the resolution of a problem or task through the interaction of a facilitator or fellow experienced.

Regards

_______________________

Fom Olga to Mary:

Cordial greeting classmate Mary Liliana:

The social theory developed by Albert Bandura, as you describe us, It can be analyzed the most widely used language learning strategies, It could also observe the degree of student commitment to learning, a focus on the development of student learning throughout of time, in the case of the independent variables, since the value-added models can offer a quantitative basis of greater precision and reliability for the learning strategies of a language, since the social context in which learning takes place is a factor of success that includes elements such as the opportunities they have to learn, either formally in the classroom or informal outside the classroom, in a country where the language is spoken in a native way.

I think your template is good, according to with the guide in the template and in the example that is in the forum header, one suggestion would specify which is the dependent variable and the independent variable in such a way that they are easy to identify in the topic of study.

Thank you very much for sharing your theoretical Perspective.

Cordially,

Olga Rivera

-------------------------------------------
From Neidy Beltran

Classmate Mary,

I liked this theory a lot because personally it is something that I use on a daily basis, observe other people and develop my own learning, it is a very good theory that I consider many people practice it, in fact social learning allows us to develop as individuals new skills and apply what we consider useful.

You could say that we absorb what we can use from other people and apply it to ourselves.
I consider the theory is very well explained is perfectly understood.

Regards,

Neidy Beltran

Name: Jorge Enrique Ramírez GallardoCourse: Qualitative and Quantitative ResearchTutor: Helga Valeska LeonDate: October 31Th of 2018Theoretical PerspectiveThe theory that I will use is social development theory. it was developed by Lev Vygotsky, and it was used to study cognitive development and the evolution of language this theory indicates that the far-reaching influence that the Russian psychologist Lev Vygotsky (1896–1934) has had on second language acquisition (SLA) research is reflected in studies which emphasize the important role played by semiotic mediation in social interaction within social, cultural, physical, and historical contexts. While Vygotsky did not write extensively about SLA per se, he did provide a foundation for SLA research through his analysis of the development of mental systems as humans acquire and develop the ability to communicate through language. His study of the interrelationship between thinking processes, those involved in perceiving, processing, organizing, and storing information from the environment and using it to guide action, and language processes, those involved in using signs/symbols to make and communicate meaning in social interaction, provides a foundation for understanding the interrelationship between thinking and language processes involved in communicating meaning in a second language. As applied to my topic, this theory holds that I would expect my independent variables like the beliefs, customs, traditions, social interaction and culture of people to influence or explain the dependent variable the acquisition of second language and all elements that it has, because each social situation that the person experiences and lives allows him to advance and grow in the development and apprehension of knowledge and if it is a new language he will potentiate his communicative skills.

Name: Claudia Marcela Velandia GonzalezCourse: Qualitative and Quantitative ResearchTutor: HELGA VALESKA LEONDate: October, 2018Theoretical Perspective The theory that I choose is An Experimental Study on the Effectiveness of Multimedia in College English Teaching by Jing Liu which attempts to analysis and conclude the effectiveness of the teaching process with the aid of Multimedia methods with the application of computers, hardware and internet tools in teaching approaches and methods, over the traditional teaching method, in this case I would indicate as independent variable the Multimedia teaching methods, and as dependent variables the effectiveness of learning process and the effectiveness of motivation activities in classroom. Because is a clear demonstration and testing how is working the use of Multimedia in education and it influence on the students motivation and their effectiveness learning.

I was investigating about Jing Lui a young Chinese architect and very little bibliography I found about this supposed theory. It is recognized by all that an appropriate use of multimedia allows teachers and students to optimize the teaching - learning process and make the most of it. But really, I did not find a solid theory in this argument. However, it is necessary to consider what is proposed in the document "Experimental Study on the effectiveness of multimedia in College English Teaching":

The students consider that, by improving the dynamics
of the classroom, it also improves your attention during explanations
(Jamet, Gavota & Quaireau, 2008), although
the faculty has observed that, although it had been
created greater expectation and interest, attention
It could fluctuate a lot throughout the class session.

Students recognize that by attending more and understanding
better, they experience improved retention
(Seufert, Schütze & Brünken, 2009). It seems and has been proven by some studies that multimedia assistance methods can effectively promote students' English learning. The same analysis of the document describes that the results of this study do not contribute positively to previous hypotheses. As the same title mentions that it is an experimental study, since to become a theory requires to build or be based on a series of hypotheses and be approved by scientists.

Bibliographic reference

Liu, J. It was used to study _the language learning strategies most frequently used by academically successful students in higher education. This theory indicates that the use of learning strategies helped students achieve a better performance in the English learning. As applied to my topic, this theory holds that I would expect my independent variable concluding that even though students are motivated to learn English, they believe that language learning is a question of memorization, including memorizing grammar rules also, "repeat and practice".

The students can give their critic perspective about the Learning Strategies and how the feel working with them.

______________________________

Comments:

From Jorge to Andrea

Hi

Andrea,

Analyzing his proposal, I take as a point of reference the proposition "Being bilingual is not an option but a duty" The exponential changes to which the globalization phenomenon has led us to make a turn in the acquisition of new competences and one of them it is the learning of a second language like English. But this learning has its demands Chamot (2004) states that learners need to explore different learning strategies such as metacognitive strategies so that, they can be able to plan, monitor, and are themselves throughout their learning efforts.

Equally, It been proved through several research works that English learners who were more proficient and more motivated used a wider range of strategies, and used them more frequently, than did learners who were less proficient and less motivated.

For these reasons, I consider that the proposal has a great influence in what concerns our training project.

Regards,

Jorge Enrique

_______________________

From Olga to Andrea

Cordial greeting Andrea:

As you well describe us more than a theory you used a study that has already been done and applied in Mexican students result of interesting findings especially the qualitative research using the questionnaire instrument, one of the theories that could be applied to this study could be the Theory Constructivist Jean Piaget 1942 since the author directed three lines fundamental: constructivism, the stages of development and the relationship between development and learning, taking into account what you mention and relates to memorization, practice, and repetition.

Bibliographic references

ACKERMANN, Edith.
Name: Olga Yamith Rivera Fernández Course: Qualitative and Quantitative Research Tutor: Helga Valeska Leon Date: 2th November 2018.The theoretical PerspectiveThe theory that I will use is cognitive. It was developed for the first time by Jean Piaget, and it was used to study the exhaustive theory about the nature and development of human intelligence. This deals with the nature of knowledge itself and how humans gradually acquire it, build it and use it. This theory indicates the progressive reorganization of mental processes resulting from biological maturation and environmental experience. Piaget (1971) believed that children build an understanding of the world around them, experience discrepancies between what they already know and what they discover in their environment, and then adjust their ideas accordingly the context. As applied to my topic, this theory holds that cognitive development is at the center of the human organism and that language depends on knowledge and understanding acquired through the cognitive development and the active participation and dedicated time. Piaget also emphasizes the proactive participation of children with the environment that surrounds them, being the cognitive development the fruit of a collaborative process or cultural training. I would expect my independent variables, related to academic factors, these factors measure intellectual skills for the achievement of effective learning, the first independent variable will be the study hours: the study hours will be assessed on a 5-point Likert scale Journal dedicated to the media during the course. The established intervals will be [0-1], [1-2], [2-3], [3-4] and [More than 4]. and the second variable, participation in class: It will measure the level of attention on a Likert scale of 5 points and participation during class, to influence or explain the dependent variable is academic performance, to measure this variable, the average of the grades obtained by the student in the subject of English will be taken, because the most interesting variables on which to influence so that the student can increase their academic performance, in this way, active and initiative students, along with the ability to be constant, they will be better integrated into new work methodologies and will be aware of the time they dedicate to the subject of English.
