I get to interact with the children. Additionally, I now know how the children connect and communicate with one another. I had the chance to play and interact with the kids. I also taught them the fundamentals, like ABCD. I also delivered a speech entitled Personal Hygiene Management to the whole school.

3) Points to remember from week 1!

Don't push students to study, instead, go at their pace. Allow children to have some downtime so they can play before returning to their studies. Don't forget to provide them with breakfast every morning before the study session begins.

4) Your feelings & thoughts

I felt so happy that I could spend time with the children. I just need more time to adapt and learn how to teach the students to make them understand.

5) Any difficulties/concerns? How did you cope?

The age range for preschool students is 4 to 6 years old. I frequently find it difficult to grasp what they are saying. I made a concerted effort to listen to them, but I was still unable to comprehend them. As they can understand him better than I can, I will call the other students to listen to him out and translate it for me.

6) 2 words to describe elective posting progress so far

Fun, Exciting

7) Your plan for next week (Week 2)

I was instructed to deliver a speech continuously once a week. I hope I can present it effectively. The principal of the school instructed me to manage the third-year sports class as well. Let's hope everything goes smoothly.

1. Your name, matric number, date

Syahirah binti Rezwan Eskandar, A182125, Week 1 (10-15/7).

2. What have you done?

It was the first week of my EP project as a teacher at Pasti As-Solihin, Simpang Ampat, Pulau Pinang. Below are the list of activities I’ve participated/assisted in throughout the week;

Monday (10/7)

Netball practice

[4yo] Pra-tahfiz (surah pendek, Al-Mulk, hadith)

[4yo] Jawi (learning ‘ﻅ , ﻁ’, colouring & writing)

Tuesday (11/7)

Morning assembly (ikrar, syahadah, educational songs, doa & hadith recital)

[6yo] Bahasa Melayu (m/s 45-53 - mengeja, menulis, mewarna)

[6yo] Nurul Quran (tajwid - pendek, panjang, tanwin)

Wednesday (12/7)

Netball practice

[6yo] Peribadi Muslim (rukun iman, 3 sifat Allah - wujud, qidam, baqa’)

Latihan nasyid, kalam jamaie etc (belajar membaca)

Thursday (13/7)

Netball practice

[6yo] English (writing - good morning, good afternoon, good night)

[6yo] Sains sosial (pelangi - pembentukan, turutan 7 warna)

[6yo] Nurul Quran (tajwid)

Friday (14/7)

Netball practice

[6yo] Bahasa Arab (speaking - assalamualaikum, waalaikumussalam, ahlan wa sahlan, ahlan bika)

[6yo] Pra-tahfiz (surah pendek, Al-Mulk, hadith)

Saturday (15/7)

Fun Run PASTI Pulau Pinang

3. Points to remember from week 1!

Importance of knowledge and skills

I was given the opportunity to assist the kids’ netball practice since I’ve played netball in secondary school. Hence, Puan Latifah (the headmistress) asked for my help to educate the kids in terms of the game rules and some coaching advices based on their current performance as the team coach was sick and on leave.

Be creative!

At first, I thought teaching the fundamentals such as writing alphabets would be an easy task but it isn’t honestly. However, observing how other teachers did it, they use objects to help the kids visualising thus able to write and memorise the alphabets easier and better. For example, the alphabet “g” being expressed as “bulan sabit, mata kail” when written which I think is brilliant.

4. Your feelings & thoughts

I’m grateful as the teachers even the kids were so welcoming towards my presence there. As it was my first week at Pasti As-Solihin, I received a lot of guidance from the teachers especially regarding the tasks I must execute as a teacher which I deeply appreciate.

5. Any difficulties/concerns? How did you cope?

Communication is the key, yes it’s indeed. Being someone who is naturally quiet (but not shy), I struggle to bring the conversation forward when talking to the kids. Surprisingly most of the kids are talkative and personally I think having a good communication with them will allow us to have a good relationship with each other, hence I found my own method to create a bond with them. As I enjoy teaching, I just spontaneously or randomly do things such as asking questions testing their Mathematics addition skill, reading books together, asking what did they learn on that day when we have any free time to spend together. The kids found it fun when the learning session isn’t as formal as usual and I can feel sense of chemistry every time I did this with them.

6. 2 words to describe elective posting progress so far

Adapting, Exhausting (but) worth it

7. Your plan for next week (Week 2)

Participate in 5 years old classes.

Explore other opportunities to learn.

1. What have you done

For the first week of my elective posting, I went to the SMK Tun Sharifah Rodziah, Alor Setar, Kedah as a substitute teacher. My main task is to replace other teachers that were unable to attend their classes due to MC or other reasons. On the first day, I went to the office to report my four weeks of elective posting to the principal of the school. Basically, my first week of elective posting would be focusing on an introduction about the school, the student, and myself.

Tuesday (25/7/23)

1. Relief class of 5 Fitrah & help with Hari keusahawanan

During this class, I was able to comfortably engage with the students. They were given a task by their own teacher to create a template for Hari Keusahawanan marketing beforehand, thus during this class, I was able to help them a little with the upcoming Hari keusahawanan. Furthermore, I was able to have a really comfortable and exciting conversation with them. Since I am new to the school, they told me a lot about the school. I was able to create a good bonding with the students.

2. Relief class of 3 Cemerlang & Teach Science

During the class, since they were not given any task by their teacher, I divided the class into groups and did question-and-answer games with them. They were very energetic and excited to answer the question. I also encourage every student to participate. And for the last 10 minutes of the class, I ended the game and had a nice conversation with them.

Wednesday (26/7/23)

1. Relief class of 5 Dedikasi

For this class, they had already been given a task by their teacher, thus I asked them to proceed with homework. Throughout the class, I also go through their homework and help them a little. Moreover, I also had a small discussion with some of the students that finished their homework. They asked a lot about my courses and some of them were really interested in medicine.

Thursday (27/7/23)

Hari Keusahawanan

It was a very exciting and fun day. Students creatively decorate their own stall and even almost all classes have their own mascot. They were really excited and happy throughout the event. They were selling a variety of foods such as meatballs, pancakes, spaghetti, Cendol, and so on. Mid of the event, there will be an assessor that would assess them and there will also rewards ceremony at the end of the event. I was able to support their selling and having fun during the day.

3. Points to remember from Week 1

1. Always make a way to have a fun and beneficial class interaction but not up until make too much noise. They tend to make loud noises when they were excited, thus we need to always remind them to lower their voices

2. Always listen to them attentively and be fair throughout the class.

3. Be aware of some of the students that are being inactive and support and encourage everyone in the class to gain something from the class

4. Your feelings and thoughts

At first, I was very nervous because it is a high school, there might be students that can act disrespectful to the teacher or there might be problems during the class. However, at the same time, I was excited to get to know the students more. Luckily, I was welcomed by the students and I felt comfortable with them.

5. Any difficulties/ concerns? How did you cope?

1. Unfamiliar with the school surrounding

There were times I was struggling to find the class that I need to relief. Adding to that, I was really bad with direction. Luckily I have a friend that able to help me and direct me to find my own class. There were also some students that help me find my class. By the end of the first week, I can get more familiar with the school environment and mapping

2. Creative and communication

As being a quite person, it can be very challenging for me to summon courage to speak and catch the attention of the whole class. In order to catch the student’s attention, I need to speak clearly, loud and think of a way to have a creative and beneficial class. Not just have to communicate with them, I also need to listen to them. I need to interact with the whole class consisting of 20 students at the same time. Sometimes I need them to raise their hand to speak in order for me to have an organized teaching.

3. Students being inactive during the class

Some students may be shy to answer questions during the game, and the same student from the group may answer questions multiple times. Thus in order to make sure everyone participate, I make a rule whereby each group need to send a different representative for different questions. I also encourage students to answer the questions loudly for the other students to know the answer as well.

6. 2 words to describe Elective Posting progress so far

Interactive & fun

7. Your plan for next week (Week 2)

We were given a task by the counselor to give a speech about mental illness as the counselor mentioned there was an increasing number of students who showed symptoms of mental illness. We planned to study the topics and make a slide to give a talk about them. We also planned to make it as interactive as possible. Furthermore, we were also given the task to tutor some students to improve their understanding of science subjects.

The students range from 3 years old to 6 years old. Following that, we had sports practice from 8am to 10 am followed by study session.

On Monday (24/7/2023), my supervisor, Mrs Subra introduced me to the students and teachers of tadika efektif. I had some words with my supervisor on the purpose and expectations on my elective posting. Followed by that, we had sports practice for their upcoming sports event. After recess, the students had their study session in their respective classes. I was assigned to 3 and 4 year old students. Firstly, I introduced myself once again and started with the lesson. On the first day, the students were asked to arrange tin cans which is an effective way to train their coordination skills.

On the second day , Tuesday (25/7/2023), after sports practice and recess, the 3 to 4 year olds were given toys such as lego and building blocks to play with. This will aid their fine motor skills and benefits the budding mind.

On the third day, Wednesday (26/7/2023), I was assigned to 6 year olds. Points to remember from week 1?
I realized that different students needs different approaches to a given tasks. Some are well focused and oriented while others are easily distracted and playful. I also learnt that it is important guide them one by one as some students are competent while others are just beginners. Apart from that, I also get to know that training young children with toys and other equipment is necessary in the development of fine motor skills, precision as well as social skills.

4. Your feelings and thoughts.
On the first few days of the posting, I felt disorganized and clueless on how to tackle young preschoolers. However as days went on, I learnt to use different approaches on different students. Moreover, I also felt enthusiastic to teach them as they were obedient and fun to be with.

5. Any difficulties/concerns? How did you cope?
I had difficulties when it comes to teaching young children who are 3 to 4 years old. This is because, they were hyperactive and often does not listen to commands. They were also easily distracted and get into fights when teachers are out of sight. I manage to cope up with this with the help of fellow teachers in the classroom.

6. Two words to describe elective posting so far .
Advantageable, exciting

7. Your plan for next week ( week 2)
We will be having annual sports day on the next week and there will be quite some preparation to be done such as wrapping gifts, preparing medals and show boards according to groups.

1. Your name, matric no, date

Bahiratuz Zulfa binti Baharuddin
A180904
24/7/2023 – 25/7/2023 (2 days)

2. What have you done?

I worked as a science and biology teacher at my previous high school, Maahad Tahfiz Sains Tanah Merah, Kelantan. From day one of my elective posting, my biology supervisor gave me the task of attending her classes and educating the students in Forms 1, 4, and 5 about various types of experiments. There, I get an opportunity to demonstrate to the students how to conduct the experiment properly. Apart from that, I was able to convey to them the significance of the experiments in syllabus and how we may use them in our everyday lives. Unfortunately, I was only able to meet the students for two days because they were on a four-day weekend break from Wednesday to Sunday.

3. Points to remember in week 1!

Method to approach students.

As every student in the school is assigned to the class at random, regardless of their grade of performance, I need to figure out a strategy to ensure that they can all benefit from the knowledge and receive the same amount of material without any issues. Therefore, I need to identify an effective learning style by doing some research so that I can apply it to the students.

4. Your feelings and thoughts

As an ENFJ person, thankfully, I found it easy to interact with people I met at first. I had no problem at all interacting with both students and teachers, especially since most of the teachers were my former teachers.

On the other hand, I felt tired because I had to attend class constantly from morning until evening. Thankfully, the teachers are so kind that they invited me to the school canteen to have some meals before the next session.

5. Any difficulties/ concerns? How did you cope?

As previously stated, the students in each class come from a different range of educational backgrounds. As a result, I found it challenging to identify which students required more attention than others. Some students also demonstrated a lack of interest in the subject of biology. Therefore, it is my responsibility to change their perspective and demonstrate the value of biology in our daily lives.

6. 2 words to describe elective posting progress so far
It was tiring yet enjoyable.

7. Your plan for next week.

Read the syllabus beforehand to give me an idea about the topic and proceed with the slides and other things.

Not to mention, with their midterm exams approaching, I intended to strengthen their basic knowledge in biology by providing them with some materials and simplified notes that I had prepared for them.

My job is to help them whenever they are unavailable due to MC or any reasons. I was given the opportunity to handle kids range from 4 to 6 years old. I taught them the basics learning like ABC, 123 and also jawi ( ا ب ت). I guided them to complete their tasks such as reading, drawing, writing and also coloring. We also had sports practice every Tuesday for the upcoming sports event. On Wednesday (26/7), I got the opportunity to visit a 5 year old student, Danish who was involved in a recent road accident and luckily, there were no big injuries. During the visit, we got to spend time with Danish's family and also contributed to ensuring his every need and welfare was prioritized. Apart from that, we had a "gotong-royong" on Friday (28/7) and teachers are obligated to participate except students. We were also sanitized the school to make sure it was clean and safe for students as they are many of them got affected by HFMD recently.

3. Points to remember from week 1!

Be patient when dealing with kids as everyone has their own differences and develops at their own rate. Some children may need considerable help more than others.

4. Your feelings & thoughts

It’s an awesome feeling to work with kids even though sometimes things can get so overwhelming at start but overall, I really enjoy kids.
FIRST WEEK AS A TEACHER AT E.L. PRESCHOOL JUASSEH NEGERI SEMBILAN

1.Your name, matric number, date
Wafa Thohirah binti Mohd Sabri, A182369, 25/7/2023-28/7/2023

2.What have you done?
As a preschool teacher, early in the morning, I need to handle the kids in a playroom while the other teacher will call a few names to check their reading skills and this is specifically for kids aged 6 years old. In the playroom, we watch some cartoon movies together and I also play games and chat with the kids. After that, I handle the assembly and Dhuha prayer then we prepare the kids for their meal times. For every meal, my main role is to help the teachers there serve the food and drink for the kids and clean up everything after their meal. I had an opportunity to teach 5-year-old kids basic Science and the learning materials and activities are all according to the file given to me. In the afternoon, the teachers including me will prepare the kids for showers and they will sleep until 3 pm. In the evening, I will handle the kid in the playroom again and we had some activities like reciting a few surah and learning Iqra’(Islamic class).

3. Points to remember from week 1!
Kids like them are still learning about life. We cannot aspect them to know everything so the teacher’s role is very important to teach them basic manners, and basic social skills with friends, teachers, and others. During the teaching process, the main thing is to be patient, patient, and patient because handling kids is not easy as an adult.☺️

4. Your feelings & thoughts
During my first day at the preschool of course I felt nervous because it was my first time handling so many kids at one time. But the next day onward, I felt excited to be there (preschool)with the kids, and to be honest at home I missed them already even though after just a few moments together. And there is certain times my head was blank because some unexpected incident happened in front of my eyes but thanks to the teachers there I learned how to approach certain incidents calmly and effectively.

5.Any difficulties/concerns? How did you cope?
The main problem with the kids I handled is they tend to fight with their friends and then cry. How I approach this is by explaining to them what have they done and what they need to do in that particular situation (most of the time they just need to say sorry and say thank you to their buddies😊). It is maybe difficult to explain because they are not mature yet but at least I want them to know and understood basic social skills so that they develop their character well.

6. 2 words to describe elective posting progress so far
Challenging and exciting

7. Your plan for next week (Week 2)
Just doing the same routine as I just described before but with more spirit and energy for my beloved kids.😘

I have to be there within time because if not, the children will be waiting for the teacher, which is not a good example.

4. Your feelings & thoughts
At first, I was really nervous since I had no experience handling students. I am afraid that I could not get along with the students. Any difficulties/concerns? How did you cope?
Firstly, squabbles among students. I had difficulty handling students when two or three students squabbled among each other. Since HFMD cases have been increasing recently, thus I make sure that the students are healthy before entering the centre.

1) Your name, matric number, date

Nursyifa Nadhirah Binti Zulkefli

A184001

25/7/2023 - 29/7/2023

2) What have you done?

In the first week of work, I went through a briefing and introduction on the company's laws and regulations, such as not being allowed to bring gadgets into the office, no eating or drinking, and maintaining the privacy of clients' information. I also observed the way the Celcom staff interacted with clients and carried out their jobs, and tried to learn crucial Celcom-related matters from them.

The manager, Ms. Warni, has shown me how to utilise the software they use and how to distribute work to the staff in order to fill in for her as she will be on leave next week.

The celcom department held a competition on Saturday to determine which team managed to reach the most collection. I was given the responsibility of becoming Group One's advisor, and fortunately, our team won the match.

3) Points to remember from week 1!

One of the takeaways from the first week is how to communicate with the customers. I learned that I need to use respectful language when explaining the implications of not clearing the payment, for instance, and the outstanding balance or final bill that is still due. In addition, another point that I need to remember is how to use the software which has been explained to me by the manager.

4) Your feelings & thoughts

I feel very grateful because my manager is a very kind-hearted, gentle person, who always gives words of encouragement and does not belittle staff members who do not succeed in reaching their daily targets. The staff are also very kind, friendly and have a good relationship with each other. They are also not arrogant to answer my questions and teach certain things. I was impressed by the staff's ability to communicate with customers from various backgrounds and still be able to communicate respectfully even when some customers use harsh words against them.

5) Any difficulties/concerns? How did you cope?

One of the difficulties I experienced in the first week was adjusting to the work schedule. At times, staff are allowed to return at 6pm and sometimes at 7.30pm. Some weeks also require employees to work on Saturdays. To understand their working hours, I asked a lot of staff and managers.

In addition, I initially thought it was challenging to understand Celcom bills and how to inform customers about their unpaid payments. But I fully grasp a lot of those things after observing how each staff member interacts with customers on a daily basis, taking notes, and always clarifying anything I did not understand.

6) 2 words to describe ep progress so far

Eye-opening, Thrilling

7) Your plan for next week

My plan for next week is to learn as much as I can from my manager about the tasks that I need to do in her absence next Thursday and Friday. I also have to observe the development of the staff members and the collection that our department obtains on a daily basis. I also want to start trying to contact customers and communicate with them.

What have you done
My first week at this playschool was an enchanting journey filled with new names and adorable faces. Since this playschool is full of delightful toddlers, I took the initiative to get to know each of them with the help of the five teachers. I followed their daily routine from 8 am to 5 pm throughout the week to explore their behavior and development.

The playschool daily routine is fun and engaging for the little kawan-kawan. Here's a glimpse of their day:

Morning - Welcome to GENIUS & Playtime (7:30 am - 8:30 am):

I warmly welcome the parents and their little ones as the day begins. After daily temperature screenings, I assist the children in settling in by helping them organize their belongings. Each child has a designated space with their name and picture, which fosters a sense of ownership. Once everyone has arrived, it's playtime! The children are given one engaging toy each day: wooden blocks, soft puzzles, tool toys, huge beads, or fish puzzles. It's incredible to witness how their imagination playing with it.

Breakfast and Selfcare (8:30 am - 9:00 am):

After playtime, it's time for breakfast and self-care. I assist the children in lining up and making their way to the dining room. We recite doa in Arabic, Malay, and English before and after our meal, fostering a sense of togetherness and gratitude. The meals are thoughtfully prepared with nutritious food. I make sure they brush their teeth and drink refreshing water before the day's activities begin.

Let's Start the Day! And Literacy Activities (9:00 am - 9:45 am):

Once everyone is fueled up, I assist the teachers in engaging the little ones in literacy activities. We gather in the living room, where the teachers encourage the children to share the day, date, and weather. We even check if any of their friends are absent, fostering a sense of empathy among them. The day begins with either morning assembly on Mondays, storytelling, singing songs, or physical activities.

The Best Time of the Day (9:45 am - 10:15 am):

One of the most exciting parts of the day is when the children split into their respective age groups. The 1-2-year-olds receive the utmost attention from a dedicated teacher, while the 3-year-olds have two teachers. As the little ones grow older, the 4-year-olds are divided into two classes, with each teacher for each class. I join them as they explore the wonders of play, from sandpit activities to enjoying the playground, embarking on nature walks, and engaging in fun water play activities.

GENIUS Activity (10:15 am - 11:15 am):

Later, I helped facilitate various GENIUS activities tailored to each age group. These activities allow the children to learn and grow while having a blast. I will share more about these fascinating activities in my next entry, as they are both fun and educational.

Fruit and Lunch (11:15 am - 12:30 pm):

After all the excitement, it's time for fruit and lunch! Points to remember from week 1
Two key points stood out during my first week at the play school. Firstly, I sincerely tried to get to know each little kawan-kawan personally, remembering their names and engaging in conversations to ensure they felt comfortable with me. The connections we formed were heartwarming. Secondly, I prioritized creating a good environment, offering warm smiles and helping hand to any hesitant or shy child. These experiences have inspired me to continue building strong bonds and supporting this beautiful little kawan-kawan in the weeks ahead.

4. Your feelings and thoughts
The teachers' dedication and patience in handling the little kawan-kawan, even with their cheekiness, deeply inspired me. Witnessing how they managed the children's enthusiasm with love and care amazed me and motivated me to embrace this journey. As the days progressed, I grew more attached to the little kawan-kawan and cherished the moments we shared. This experience has sparked my passion to contribute even more and help the teachers provide the best care and support for these children. I am committed to learning from them and positively impacting the lives of the little ones in this adventure.

5. Any difficulties/ concerns? How did you cope?
I didn't encounter any problems with the children; they were all adorable and delightful. However, I did experience some personal difficulties and concerns. I felt a tinge of guilt when the teachers generously bought me breakfast and lunch for free. Although I appreciated their kindness, accepting such gestures was challenging. Additionally, I felt a bit shy during lunchtime and struggled to find topics to discuss with the teachers. But to cope with this, I decided that I would buy them breakfast next week to reciprocate their kindness and show my gratitude. I hope this gesture will also help me feel more comfortable and connected with the teachers during lunchtime conversations.

6. 2 words to describe elective posting progress so far
new exposure!!

7. Your plan for next week (week 2)
For next week, I plan to continue exploring GENIUS activities that are well-suited for the children's development and interests. I will work closely with the teachers to design engaging educational experiences that spark their curiosity and creativity. Additionally, I am excited to prepare for the upcoming field trip to the fire station, where the little kawan-kawan, teachers, and parents will be on an exciting adventure together. I am sure that the field trip will be both educational and enjoyable
